Guest Bruce Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Rune, prune, somebody bring me a macaroon. The bike was obviously designed for the smaller weener crowd maybe the name has special significance for them.
DeBenGuzzi Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 where are all my "Ninjas"? come on now. you are all knocking the rune but if you could, youd ride one, I know it don't lie. I can tell when youre lying.
Guest Fox Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 More than that! Griso is not a noun in Italian slang. Not at all. It is the First Name of a character in the famous 9th century Italian Novel "I Promessi Sposi" by Alessandro Manzoni. The tale of the book is set in the Lake of Como area and il Griso is the tough, mean and cruel bodyguard of the evil Don Rodrigo (sort of the Godfather of the times :-) ). I think it is quite a cool name for a bike. G. PS: Breva in Spanish means pussy... That's why it is called STR 750 over there. 43544 I bet the italians know Breva means Pussy
rktman1 Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 ... CBR-whats that stand for anyway? I don't know what the 'CB' part means but Honda has designated their bikes with 'CB' since the 60's. The CB750, CB350, etc. The 'R' part of 'CBR' is for 'Race', as in race-replica.
jrt Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 I bet the italians know Breva means Pussy 43556 And really, is that a bad thing? Ford MoCo came out with the 'Probe'. and Uma drove around in this
pete roper Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 You'd have to admit that the Combat Wombat manufactured by Hodaka was pretty silly! V-Strom I think just about takes the biscuit at the moment though, what's that all about????? Pete
Guest ratchethack Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 My vote: The Whizzer Motorbike. Some say it was known in Boston as the "Wicked Pisser". Definitely a contender. But when I was 12, I thought mine was pretty cool...

Perhaps a literary allusion to Piaggio from the Guzzi factory? http://www.underthesun.cc/Classics/Manzoni...etrothed13.html George
Dirtybill Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I bet the italians know Breva means Pussy 43556 I believe Rossi's "WLF" on the front part of the collar on his leathers, refers to a person who likes pussy.
DeBenGuzzi Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 what about the falco? makes me think of that really bad rapper from the late 80's I think. Rock me amedaius
al_roethlisberger Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 ...come on now, have some respect... he's dead after all http://german.about.com/library/blmus_falco.htm Let's all have a moment of silence for “Der Kommissar”
antonio carroccio Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 Let's speculate..... Does Derrik have incarnate Rex?
helicopterjim R.I.P. Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 Ducati has had a good run at unappealing names - at least to me. The 'Cucciolo'. A puppy. The 'Diana'. A goddess. The 'Darmah'. A tiger. Maybe they would have worked better in English. I liked it when they changed to a simple formula using category and displacement, ie 750 GT, Sport and Super Sport.
