richard100t Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 I was thinking about getting the fbf eliminator kit, so I looked at my bike. The tekno bag mounts are attached to the rear fender! Will I have to remove the bags & brackets to have the eliminator kit? What a shame! I love those bags too....I plan on travelling this summer. Any advice or thoughts on this?
jrt Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 The stays on the rear fender are just to keep the frames held apart. You could probably just run a rod all the way across to accomplish the same thing, although you might have to cut the existing stays. it would go from |--o o--| to |-------| (not to scale) don't you just love ascii art.... Admin Jaap Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 I did exactly what JRT suggested: Two struts welded between the two frame halves. Works fine. Here's a few pics: BTW, the frame is for sale if anyone is interested.
richard100t Posted February 19, 2005 Author Posted February 19, 2005 God I just love this site :!: If I can think of it someones already done it, & knows all about it Thanx guys
DeBenGuzzi Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I bet you could get away with one bar welded on. 2 seems like overkill. I don't want to break down and get turn my sport into a sport touring. thats why I'm going to get an Aprila futura.
Admin Jaap Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 I decided two use two bars. It takes out the sideways movement, completely and that helps to keep the welds intact.
al_roethlisberger Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Why are you selling it Jaap? Did you get some hardbags, or just find that you didn't need the extra luggage on trips? al
Martin Barrett Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 (edited) I decided two use two bars. It takes out the sideways movement, completely and that helps to keep the welds intact. Don't blame you, my standard mount broke one of its welds. The reweld only lasted a couple of days, so was replaced with an L shaped braceing piece, ugly but effective. Sorry no pic - going out to rectify Oops need a touch of rust proofing. Edited February 19, 2005 by Martin Barrett

Guest ckamin Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Here is a suggestion... Take a dremel or rotary tool with a cutting wheel and cut off the lower 4-5 inches of the mudguard/splashshield below the license plate. It'll save you the money of the relocation kit, clean up the rearend, and retain the mounting supports for the bags.

Like he said... took me about 30 minutes, and cleans rear right up. I also relocated the botom reflector and kept original plate bracket.
Guest ckamin Posted March 22, 2005 Posted March 22, 2005 Yeah, works good and is easy, except I put the reflector away with my other spare parts.
