It is more aerodynamic! :grin:

And I suspect it has a motorized High Beam, so that may actually be brighter on high beam.

Otherwise the reflector area may be reduced, so some lumens may be lost, but automobiles with the HID projector beams seam to perform well with, even with reduced reflection area.

If it is low beam only, forget about it. Too much money for half a solution.

However:

They also have an H4/HID conversion with low beam only for $250.

Couple a good pair of driving lights to use for high beam and it could be a good setup.

HID can't "start" quickly; kinda like sodium vapor streetlights, that take some time to "kick on."

 

Since few people drive w/ their highs on for any length of time, but rather use it temporarily to flash a signal to another driver, it doesn't make sense to have that HID.

 

That said, HID is just a fad. The future is high-output LED arrays with faceted reflectors for a truly even & bright lit field of view. It's coming, just give it time. The neat thing is that it'll be a drop-in replacement for existing sealed-beam form factors. [/futurist mode]

HID's arent used for HIGH BEAM...because as you say it takes time

to "warm up"....its no more than a second but it does take time.

 

HID's are here to stay...they offer brighter light, next to NO heat,

longer bulb life (no filament to burn or brake under vibration) and

they also require considerably lower wattage.

 

Its expensive but the prices are falling at nearly the rate of increased

options/solutions for diff. bikes/cars.

 

as a ref. in 2000 it cost me 500 bucks for bulb, balast & wiring harness

along w/ a bulb adapter so i could fit the bulb/system to my K bike.

 

today they offer complete HEADLIGHTs/lens/reflector/glass/hid lowbeam

and conventional HIGH beam for less than 500 !

You clearly weren't paying attention: I stated that HID was just a fad because high output LED arrays were a better solution and would overtake that part of the market currently being occupied by HID, not that HID was inherently flawed.

youre right i wasnt paying attention...my appology.

 

i still think HID is here to stay though ;)

 

Personally I like LED's too and they have some purposes...but

how many city busses & tractor trailers etc do you see

w/ LED "drop outs"...works for them but personally for any

of my vechiles the loss of even a single LED would suck...

i know me and i KNOW id be getting my soldering pencil out

to replace even a single burned out led.
