dlaing Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 I didn't think anyone would get it. You should get a quiz point for that! 43997 I needed to look it up... Written By Warren Zevon & David Lindell c. 1976 Zevon Music/BMI Roland was a warrior from the Land of the Midnight Sun With a Thompson gun for hire, fighting to be done The deal was made in Denmark on a dark and stormy day So he set out for Biafra to join the bloody fray Through sixty-six and seven they fought the Congo war With their fingers on their triggers, knee-deep in gore For days and nights they battled the Bantu to their knees They killed to earn their living and to help out the Congolese Roland the Thompson gunner... His comrades fought beside him - Van Owen and the rest But of all the Thompson gunners, Roland was the best So the CIA decided they wanted Roland dead That son-of-a-bitch Van Owen blew off Roland's head Roland the headless Thompson gunner Norway's bravest son Time, time, time For another peaceful war But time stands still for Roland 'Til he evens up the score They can still see his headless body stalking through the night In the muzzle flash of Roland's Thompson gun In the muzzle flash of Roland's Thompson gun Roland searched the continent for the man who'd done him in He found him in Mombassa in a barroom drinking gin Roland aimed his Thompson gun - he didn't say a word But he blew Van Owen's body from there to Johannesburg Roland the headless Thompson gunner... The eternal Thompson gunner still wandering through the night Now it's ten years later but he still keeps up the fight In Ireland, in Lebanon, in Palestine and Berkeley Patty Hearst heard the burst of Roland's Thompson gun and bought it

Dirtybill Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 And it must be noted that another friend of Mr. Thompson has passed away. Warren Zevon succumbed to lung cancer just the other day. Maybe he has found Roland. 43987 Slight correction. Warren Zevon died approx a year ago. He recorded his last album knowing that he was dieing of cancer.
helicopterjim R.I.P. Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Hah! What an idiot I am. I didn't even read the date on the press release. Maybe Warren went early to setup van Owen for when Mr. Thompson arrives!

dlaing Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 PS I just love how the News media says that Chirac and Bush have nothing in common! what a bunch of BS
dlaing Posted February 24, 2005 Posted February 24, 2005 2003 interview Thompson gave on KDNK in the Roaring Fork Valley in Colorado. An excerpt: "Bush is really the evil one here and it is more than just him. We are the Nazis in this game and I don't like it. I am embarrassed and I am pissed off. I mean to say something. I think a lot of people in this country agree with me - a lot than that are saying anything...we'll see what happens to me if I get my head cut off next week -- it is always unknown or bushy-haired strangers who commit suicide right afterwards with no witnesses."
dlaing Posted February 24, 2005 Posted February 24, 2005 To cut the conspiracy short, his wife was apparently on the phone with him when he pulled the trigger. I can't imagine the suffering his family is going through http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=05/02/23/164218
