v50man Posted July 8, 2005 Author Posted July 8, 2005 Dammit! The PDF of the screen didn't take. Anyway, Nicky Hayden was fastest in practice (just ended) and Max Biaggi was third fastest. Bayliss second -- Rossi TENTH!!! This is gonna be good! v50
big J Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Wait til Sunday, boys. So, who's going to be second this week? My money's on Colin.[What little there is left.]
v50man Posted July 8, 2005 Author Posted July 8, 2005 I LOVED the aggressive riding Nicky displayed at Assen. If he's got his confidence up, watch out. Don't laugh, but I wouldn't count Max out either (as smooth riding is a GOOD thing at LS). A Hayden win would be great for the sport, but if I were a betting man... ...Rossi. But I ain't a betting man, and I love to dream...
soloNH Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 It would indeed be great if Colin or Nicky would be atop the podium. Colin said at the end of the Assen race that he was riding at his limit to catch third and dialed it back a bit just to finish. Nicky is due and if he is ever going to make it Laguna will be the place. (local by makes good) But let's face it, with Valentino in the mix there will surely be a battle. The real winner will be us as GP is finally back in the U.S. Wh-hooo!!!!
supertwin1 Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 My brother is an official with the AMA/FIM working the start/finish grid at Seca and today he calls me screaming into his cell phone "ya gotta hear these bikes" so I place the phone to my ear and heard exactly what I thouhgt I would hear upon my timely demise...pure ecstatic joyful noise!!! If I died tomorrow this is the sound I wanna hear passing thru the white light into the abyss. Now Nicky does have a chance in this fray, we've all seen him back the rear end around on turn 2, he does know this track well and is suits him well, but so does Colin! We, the very lucky citizens of the US ARE the winners in that GP racing is back with a vengeance.
Guzzirider Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 Rossi does not like the Laguna Circuit and has been complaining about the dangerous bits- still not going to write him off though.
v50man Posted July 9, 2005 Author Posted July 9, 2005 FP3: Hayden ------- 1 Hopkins ------ 3 Edwards ----- 6 Some guy named Rossi was fifth, and Mad Max was seventh. Great day for the Americans. It's Nicky time -- or is it?
v50man Posted July 9, 2005 Author Posted July 9, 2005 Qualifying Practice: Young Nicky --------------- 1 Rossi ________________2 Barros-----------------------3 Bayliss________________4 Edwards---------------------5 Hopkins______________--6 Mad Max--------------------7 This is gonna be GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
gthyni Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 Yes it will, but I don't think Hayden will make it, his friends on the front row is the worst company he could get.... My tip for the podium: 1. Rossi 2. Barros 3. Edwards
v50man Posted July 10, 2005 Author Posted July 10, 2005 My podium picks: 1 -- Hayden 2 -- Melandri 3 -- Biaggi I have a weird feeling that Rossi is going to crash out. We'll see. Watch out for Hopkins. He's due as well.
gthyni Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 1 -- Hayden2 -- Melandri 3 -- Biaggi hmmm... Biaggi, not his kind of track, it is too bumpy thies days, I think, 5th Melandri, already has crashed twice this weekend, 7th Hayden, no, he can't take the pressure, when Rossi is on his rear wheel the fun is over, 4th my one hour until the moment of truth.
v50man Posted July 10, 2005 Author Posted July 10, 2005 Since I've nothing to do 'til the race starts, here's my twisted logic. Hayden has CONSISTENTLY been the fastest all weekend. He's confident and, I think, comfortable. Rossi is decidedly uncomfortable -- already making excuses -- and mentally preparing himself not to win. Biaggi is smooth and consistent, and I think these traits will serve him well a LS. Melandri's got his crashing out of the way, I think. He's probably the sport's post-Rossi star, and I just think he'll figure it out in time. These are probably more wishes than predictions, but I really believe Young Nicky can do it at LS. Also have a bad feeling about Rossi on this track. We'll see. It's going to be the best race so far because things are shaken up -- not going to plan -- and anything could happen. One half-hour 'til we find out... hmmm... 55897[/snapback]
gthyni Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 But despite his Saturday progress, Rossi is facing the toughest test of the 2005 season so far - and knows he'll have to work hard to win his seventh race from eight events. However, Rossi warned that he's "here to win" and with Yamaha's 50th Anniversary celebrations also taking place at Laguna, there's little chance of riding conservatively to protect his points lead. http://crash.net/uk/en/news_view.asp?cid=6&nid=114649 20 minutes left
