richard100t Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Lol & I thought the U.S was turning into a pinko socialist/commie state! You guys in Denmark (or anywhere taxes are that high), are in need of a revolution! 180% tax on a bike? What is your income tax rate like? I could understand those kinds of taxes only if there are maybe no taxes in other areas of life. I suppose you get all kinds of for your tax money though lol. Ok I'll have to edit/censor myself here before I get carried away.
Guest Nogbad Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 At least in the UK we try not to do this too much. Instinctively we are free traders. You can buy most anything in the rest of the EU and import it without duty as long as the local duty is paid in the country of origin. A few years ago it was a great dodge to buy your car in Belgium. Uk dealer prices soon plummeted and we have some of the cheapest car and bike prices in Europe now.
gthyni Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 At least in the UK we try not to do this too much. Instinctively we are free traders. driving on the wrong side of the road must dampen be urge to buy belgian cars, doesn't it? How about oil? In Sweden we have to tax again if we buy finnish machine diesel wihich is already taxed in Finland. The oil companies wants control over each local market to maximize profits. Suddenly free trade is gone.

Hey, the swedes pays approx the same But their cars are cheaper. But I don't wanna move to Sweden, Gthyni, I hate to spend my time commuting. And we do have a revolution going on, the present government is calling it a taxstop - i.e. they are promising not to increase the taxes, it's a huge debate in Denmark. Taxreduction - no way we're getting that - not significantly. But every dane is hoping that the common market will undermine the tax on cars and motorbikes. Denmark recently lost in EU-court regarding the car-tax, a small defeat, but here's to hoping it's the small leak, that'll break the dam. And seen from US, Denmark is a pinko socialist/commie state, but education and hospitals are free for all, so it's worth the money (and the commie-label).
callison Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Denmark is a pinko socialist/commie state My take is that of the Euopean nations, Denmark "feels" the most like the USA. YMMV. Wandering into the local "big" store in Vojens is just like going into Target. Taxes are still ridiculous though. I limited my shopping to antiques while I was there - and lived on Corn Flakes to pay for them. Weirdly enough, Gillete razor blades were exactly half the cost in Denmark that they were in the USA. Must be because Gillette enjoys a near monopoly on the US market. While I'm not entirely fond of the bigger cities, the Danes were extremely friendly and the smaller towns were very enjoyable. Someday, I'll make it back again.
callison Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Back on thread - sort of. The Breva 1100 will not be in the USA until late October. I'm getting tired of waiting... Griso sometime in 2006.

pete roper Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Griso arrives Oz late November early December, mine is being delivered to my workshop from the importer so I don't have to deal with the local cloth-eared idiot who masquerades as a dealer Pete

I admit I have not been paying very close attention, but Pete are you saying what I think your saying? You are buying a brand spanking new Guzzi?? The same fellow who didn't really see much he liked in the new bikes? Or at least that's how I interpeted your words. Have you too become smittin {spelling?} with the captavating allure of this mystical machine?

Not to mention no test ride either. Talk about brand loyalty I must admit I didnt ride mine before I bought it either, but I did take a real good look at it first I'm scared to ride a new one because I'll probably buy the damned thing. I hate to pay retail but motorcycles are an emotional purchase at the root of it anyway.

O2 V11 Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Yes really! To buy one without ever seeing it except in photos to boot! Not to mention no test ride either. Talk about brand loyalty 60810 I don't find this unusual at all. When I imported my V11 I had only seen what was posted about them on the internet. To this day I have not seen another V11 on the road. I must admit I was nervous when I picked the bike up because it was one of those first impression situations. You know the type, you'll either love it or hate it. But like I have said before mine is a keeper. Pete, if you're quick enough you might still be able to get the personalised plate AWANKA before it's gone. Seriously good on ya, the Griso is not my cup of tea... Rob

Seriously good on ya, the Griso is not my cup of tea...Rob 60820 'Complete Tosser' won't fit unfortunately, 'FAT SOD' would though. While I haven't ridden one I have had an oportunity to crawl all over a Breva and I have to admit I liked the platform but loathed the looks. The Griso I actually like the look of. The fiorst pics I saw when it was fitted with the Hi-Cam motor I thought it looked like a right pig's breakfast, the newer pics I really like the style, as others have said, like a Centauro with the corners knocked off. As I said elsewhere that muffler's gotta go, in fact I reckon a Dr.John type 2 into 1 would be good, pity there isn't room under the rear mudguard or you could have an underseat, centre exit pipe which would look pretty neat. Look, I know it's a risk, they may turn out to be a complete dog. I hope not though. My current machines are keepers. Whether the Griso fits that mould too only time will tell, but there is enough genuinely new and inovative about it for me to be genuinely interested, so? Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, it's off to the Credit Union I Go!!!! While 25 years ago there was no way in the world I could ever think about purchasing a new motorbike one of the very few benefits of age and, (supposed !) maturity is that I have a sufficiently good credit rating to mean I can ask and the bank will give, if I'm really smart I'll be able to write the wretched thing off as a business expense . Well, it's a tool innit? And I'll be using it for my business? OK so the treasurer will have my arse in a sling if I try it, but only if he finds out about it Pete
Baldini Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 ...Griso arrives Oz late November early December, mine is being delivered to my workshop... well @#!#$# me!!! good on ya Pete review of Griso in MCN last week - they loved it. Re the motor they say "based on Breva 1100...but nearly 50% internal components new over that engine...rods 10% lighter, pistons shorter & lighter..." I'd thought the Breva & Griso had same motor. If it's lighter internals than Breva, it's gonna be real revvy....still i bet you got an old T bike flywheel around somewhere... Hope it does it for you. Keith
Paul Minnaert Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 The german magazine Motorrad has ridden a griso and raves about it. What they normaly don't do with guzzi's, they prefer BMW:-( Also in the guzzisti forum you can read several stories of guys having ridden it at the GMG. babelfish translates the whole thing to strange english. http://world.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl...php%3Ft%3D10082
