More cleaning - for lovers of things shiny!!

OK, discovered a great product yesterday which I found actually worked and did a great job - it probably is not anything new for many but it is the first time I used it - SC 1 Silicone detailer (High gloss) - $6.99 at my local bike store - I was somewhat sceptical and just started in a small section on my old bike - results were remarkable - returned all the rubber, black items and paint to a nice shine which is dry (so does not collect more dust than before) - has a nice smell (use in ventilated areas) and also acts as a light lubricant on cables apparently - next thing I knew I was like that guy in 'My big fat greek wedding' who used windex on everything - I was spraying like a madman - couple of points though...

1. This stuff is very slippery so keep it away from any brake items.

2. It forms a layer over whatever is there before so if you have crud on the bike it will not remove it, but in fact preserve it!!! So clean your bike well first.

3. Watch the floor, it makes everything slippery....

 

Going to buy two more cans today and work on my cars - I have an old '53 Mercury and the paint is getting dull in places - a test with this made it look much better as a quick fix.

Don't put it on the seat! I did that with something similar and it took me ages to get it off and restore some friction!

If you get the urge again, ask Guzzirider if you can borrow his special bike.

Or just get stronger trousers.

I must admit to being a bike cleaning perv- I do it aboout once every 2 months or when it gets filthy and spend a whole Saturday cleaning and polishing- its also the best way to find out what is about to fall off.

 

I use a hose first to loosen up the dirt / grit / salt, then spray it with Autoglym bike cleaner that breaks down the tough stuff and brake dust.

 

Then wash it with bike shampoo and sponge- then hose it clean with cold water.

 

Let it dry for a couple of hours then out with the Autoglym bike polish for the paintwork and Armour All for the plastics and seat- its fine to use on the seat as long as you give it a good wipe afterwards.

 

I have made the mistake of not wiping the seat and sliding everywhere- which was not quite as bad as riding several laps of Cadwell Park with the seat unattached because the dealer forget to fit it back on properly the day before when it was serviced.

 

Finish off by coating the engine and exposed bits with Scottoiler spray and WD40 to keep 'em protected from our good ol' British weather.

 

Best trousers for a good grip are of course arseless chaps with no underwear.
