I suppose that could also work for disk brakes, although I'd be afraid of weakening a brake disk...

weaken it by a lot! The clutch plate is supported at all points- the brake is pinched at one point. I am curious if the cuts in the clutch intermediate plate lead to increased friction plate wear?

And that said- I know that the intermediate plate does warp occasionally, but isn't this pretty rare?
