callison Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 By the way, getting paid to ride is probably the best job in the world! Its just those damn car drivers..... -Carl 64499[/snapback] We are now tasking you with getting all of those pesky cars off the highways!
dlaing Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 I dream of a world with no cages tailgating my bike in the rain on a greasy offramp More power to Carl, Martin, and Joe, clearing the lanes of those who endanger us the most. The best job for the worst pay I ever had was picking up checks for what turned out to be a bogus veteran's non-profit. The telemarketers would send me out on my v65 to pick up the checks before the gullible would change there mind. When we made the TV news, I guess I became enlightened to what I suspected, and then went and worked as a messenger driving a cage and losing my profit to parking tickets and repairs... It was more fun to be a bike messenger But to be a bike cop, atleast the wages are liveable.
Guest Britcheflee Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 Never had a problem with any cops at all - I live in a smaller town and was in fact pulled over and given a sobriety test by the local cops who knew me by sight - I was in my Chefs gear and had in fact had a couple of beers - passed the test (made me laugh because I am good at judging time due to cooking and got the one minute look up in the air and arms out deal on the button - they had to look twice at their stopwatch!!!) then blew into the bag - they came back and told me to park the truck on the side of the road and get a ride home and left - said this time they were going to let it pass as it was too close to call....whew!!! I did cause a fuss in the UK many years ago when a drunk driver hit my old VW and drove off - I got the details as best possible then went down to the local police station to try to give any information about the guy - desk copper asked for my paperwork and lo and behold my MOT was overdue by a couple of days - then started to give me grief about that - I yelled that that was the last time I try to help the cops and slammed the door on the way out....got a letter about a week later from someone higher up the food chain telling me they are dropping charges but to get the mot fixed and bring it in. next visit they were fine. I was told that in Ca the local cops are one thing but the Highway patrol cops would "give a ticket to their own mother" - so beware!! Otherwise I have nothing but respect for all police officers, bike or otherwise. Do as you would be done by - start giving them crap and they will respond likewise. Lee
helicopterjim R.I.P. Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 Don't forget that important axiom: "Ninety percent of all drivers think they are better drivers than ninety percent of all drivers!!"
slug Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 I'd like to see the police in the US riding this guy: Wonder if they'll do up the 1100 like this... So what's the most common police bike these days? In Seattle, they went from Kawasaki to BMW to H-D within a five year period.

badmotogoozer Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 This reminds me of a conversation I had with a couple of bike officers down on Robson St. a number of years ago. One was riding HD and the other was on a beemer. I asked which one they prefered. They both answered that they prefer riding on the beemer, but they want to arrive on the HD. They say sometimes just the sound of a HD pulling up can dissipate a "situation". I thought that was an interesting point of view. Rj PS - not only will those CHP dudes give a ticket to their mother, the ticket will be for the missing turn signals they just broke off her bike!
Guest ckamin Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 Yeah, the CHP is a different breed, all right. The local group of CHP motors (Santa Barbara, Goleta Station) are one heck of a motley crew! The bottom line is, though, that we are in all the same boat with regards to driver safety. Believe me, not one week goes by when I don't have a close call (and the driver usually gets a written reminder) but I have been lucky so far..... Ride safe! -Carl
