MINNESOTALEMANS Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Hello Guzzies, Nothing that important. But, between the manual's and the forum. I've always wondered just how far my v11 would go on a full tank of gas (From the brim to thats all folks!). Well, tonight I finally answered that question. Luckly on home turf. I last filled up on the East-side of the Ortaga High with Todd, Warren, and Rich heading home, post the Moto Euro West rally. My faithful steed has been parked ever since in the garage after making it home. On a quick blast around the "Hood" for some Coffee, I found out just how far MY V11SPORT will go between pit stops... 139.6 miles. No farther, no less. I now know because at every fill up during the rally we'd all re-set our Trip-Om just to judge our way about. So know I now, ya-hoo! I'm glad it happened local and I could call one of my "five minute away" riding buddies for some gas. I do wish how ever it WASN"T in front of my favorite espresso bar. As an after thought... How come I didn't get any "Air-Bubbles" or "Vacume-Lock" in my F.I??? Oh well, just thought I'd share. 139.6 139.6 139.6... THATS GOOD TO KNOW. Peace, rubbersidedown, Jedione68 P.S. YES, the gas light came on once or twice, but for the last 10 miles or so and post "No" gas... THE LIGHT WAS GONE!!! 65668

Ouiji Veck Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 I always set my trip OD @ fill up...traveling w/ big tanker BMWs & Connies (7 gal!) Yesterdays fill up was at 180mi (Light came on @ 156mi) She took 4.6 gal. I figure 1/2 gal of useable fule left... Rule of thumb>>>>200mi and I'm walking/maybe 16K mi on '02 LeMans...Loosey Goosey valves, PCIII.Stucci,Mistrals This is at sport touring RPMs ...4K most of the time...not to much WFO. But thats the only time I consider millage...get out where the gas stations can be 50 mi apart. Around town raising hell??? I'm more concened how far it is to the next pub than the next gas station.
richard100t Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 I usually refill at 130 miles or so. On the highway I get about 43 mpg with mine, & thats with me doing an average 80mph with plenty of 80-110mph blasts passing traffic. I usually get about 37 mpg in the city where I do most of my riding.

docc Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 For several stupid reasons I've run, or drained, my tank dry several times Typically it will run 5.1 USG out the petcock with another 0.7 in the right side of the tank. ( Yes, the tip-slosh reserve is effective if it doesn't crick your back!). When my bike sputtered out with the light off I found the pick- up on the petcock to be all clogged with swarf. Cleaning it put me back to a light on at 4.6 USG with about 0.5 in reserve ( without the 'tip-slosh).

Remember the early V11's had a slightly smaller tank volume because of the rubber thing on the top of the tank. Later machines should do better as there is another litre on board. Ciao, Steve G.
RacerX Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 I last filled up on the East-side of the Ortaga High with Todd, Warren, and Rich heading home, post the Moto Euro West rally. Uhhhmmmm... you mean the West side? Otherwise I was going to say for sure you weren't being "easy" on the throttle after the accel pump mod we did at EMF-W. I suspect your map to be quite rich if you truly did ride "normally" after your fill up. We decided your map to be "kind of sort of" near the ballpark, but no where close to ideal as I remember. Stop twisting the grip so much if you want better mileage, would'ya? See you this weekend at Hansen Dam?

I went 126 miles today, and filled up, and it took 2.6 gallons to fill it up..... How many gallons do our tanks hold? Oh by the way I was hauling ass from the Mexican border to Tucson, mostly between 80-100 mph!

You got about 48MPG and the tank holds somewhere between four and six "available" gallons, so if you can regularly repeat that fuel efficiency, you should be able to go over 200 miles! Al R. did some accurate measurements in one thread....

If that's true for you too, you had 2.9 gallons left in the tank when you filled up. You should get close to 200 miles per tank. Don't you love that feeling at those speeds. Hard to stay away from 80, 100, or 120 even. I get bored at 60 or 70. Gotta watch for the MAN. Rocketman
O2 V11 Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Jedi....did you do the infamous gas slosh to get fuel to left side? Nearly a gallon of fuel could get stuck on the right side in the older style tank used up until early 2003. ..here's Al's thread from last year...before he left us in the dust and upgraded to the new style tank. http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2153&hl= 65743 I don't hold to this theory at all. I have put over 21 litres into my tank on 3 separate occasions. I can assure you, there never was any where near 3.9 litres (1 US gallon) lurking unused in the right hand side of the tank at the time. In fact there was hardly enough left to make any sloshing sound at all. The manual states a fuel capacity of 20.7 litres including a "reserve" of 5 litres. This is pretty close to the mark and just about the lot of it is usable. Rob

Gas it, set up, see window of corner, PULL! Yes I'm sure our map is a "Little" rich... But I wouldn't change it if gas was $20. a gallon! She's running so nice, and I love that 20 revolution pumper!!! Hello Moto. And sad but tue, last feel up was before that great food stop we forgot to stop at!. As for the Dam, I'll have to change me plans. I had totally spaced and made plans for the CREST this weekend... But Dams are always better! See ya there. Jedi
