Handle Bars

So .... the new handle bars from Jean Marc arrived. Did anyone else get theres yet and try to install them? I'm going to be a slacker and let somebody else do it first so I can learn from their experience :D

 

By the way, they look great ... :)

Mine should arrive any day, being a little further north. I'd love to hear about your installation procedure before I start mine, as I usually do things a few different wrong ways first, and you've got a head start. :luigi:

I didn't receive any instructions via email :huh2:

 

 

I did receive my bars yesterday though. I suspect I will not have time to fiddle with them until this Winter though. We are too caught up with post-move projects and searching for a lot and builder for a new house.

 

I plan to look a bit more closely at them tonight, but two things come to mind(well three):

 

1) The collar looks a bit tall to fit where the OEM bar clamps are above the triple, but I'll compare them side-by-side. I hope I don't have to raise the forks a bit to get a good purchase.

 

2) I'm going to need one helluva long hex wrench to fit down the bar tube to tighten it onto it's mount :o I bet it'll need to be 8 inches long, and I don't think a socket mounted one will fit down the bar.

 

3) These sure are well made :thumbsup:

Well, I went out and compared the new bars with the stock height/protrusion of my fork crowns above the triple, and indeed the top edge of new bar clamps would be about 2-3mm taller than the current bar clamps and crown of the fork, leaving that same 2-3mm of clamping area with no purchase.

 

I'm not certain this would be a safety issue per se as the stock bars clamp to a similarly shorter area, but I guess I could drop the front 2-3mm without major impact to handling, and in fact being a 2002 may make it a little better arguably :huh2:

 

We'll see in a month or two when I get to it.

Getting a "chubbie" here today as my clip ons from Zebulon have arrived!!!

 

They do look awsome :thumbsup: as I knew they would.

 

I will send pictures when I get home to my own computer. :ninja:

Now that I have the MPH risers I'm not so sure I will want them, but my brother in law is desperate for new higher bars on his 2003 Le Mans.

Al,

 

I raised the forks thru clamps about 11mm (3rd ring on Ohlins). Steered better, front felt more planted. No loss of stability or any downside I can find. (I had already increased ground clearance, which could be an issue).

So how many ways are there that it fits toghether:-)

 

The le mans won't loose stability until you raise the forks a foot.

No, I know how they go together, but I did want to make sure I had the instructions just in case. They are a relatively "critical" component to get right after all :grin:

 

So, BTW, I don't think the torque values for the fasteners are in the directions. Can you provide them?
