belfastguzzi Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 I am moving to Ireland in mid december . Though if you want to pay an absolutely ridiculous price, there is a 'new' greenie here that has never shifted.

But cannot find anyone under $2500. And then I am unsure about the import taxes, and insurance. I can have a my bikes shipped over in a few months, if I can find a shipper. With the quotes I have been given, I can buy a used Guzzi for just about the same money.

No guzzi dealers, only one garage that has repared some guzzis in the 90's. I'll be happy to meet you. Where are you going to be based?

John O'Sullivan Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 HD, I would advise that you subscribe to the U.K. Guzzi Club as the cost is minimal and the bikes for sale will give you a good selection to choose from when you are buying. I will also give you an excuse for a nice ride back to Donegal when you purchase in the U.K.
belfastguzzi Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Donegal 66672[/snapback] How did you know that??????

Yeh there's usually a good selection in the MGCGB Magazine - reasonable prices unless you're after the "collectable". I'll pm you membership contact if you want - think it's about £16 pa ??? I dunno about importing to Eire but there's plenty Guzzis here in UK. welcome to the British Isles . KB
Guzzirider Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 I love Donegal especialy the wild and rugged coast- you are a lucky man to move there HDGoose! Guy

belfastguzzi Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 He could be arriving at any of these sites: in fact it's most likely that he'll be coming in to Strangford, near me: "From late September through to mid-November over three-quarters of this population of HDGeese occur at Strangford Lough, feeding on the important Zostera (Eel-grass) resource on the mudflats there. As the autumn progresses, numbers at the other important sites around all corners of the Irish coast from Strangford to Wexford, Tralee to Trawbrega gradually increase towards mid-winter. At some sites including the estuaries in Dublin, Wexford and Tralee, some thousands of HDGeese occur, sitting out the winter accumulating reserves for harder winter times and slowly preparing for the lengthening days of spring by which time things will have gone full-circle."

ferguzzi Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 Um, firstly, quick geography lesson. Ireland isn't part of the British isles. Hence the British and Irish lions. Next, It's true there are no dealers in Ireland, in Dublin there's an ex-guzzi engineer who works out of his garage, and he seems to know his stuff, but any warantee stuff or, to be honest, anything complicated, and I'd make the trip across the water to the UK. It's a good excuse for a spin through Wales, if nothing else. As far as I know there's maybe 3 or 4 V11s in the republic, and the only northern one I've come across is Belfastguzzi's, but there could well be more. I'm pretty sure I've the only one in Dublin, but Older guzzi's do exist, and there rare. Irelands not particularly biker friendly, the weather's shit most of the year, the roads are the worst in Europe(surface-wise), prices are high and insurance is expensive, so any big bikes are relatively scarce. Guiness is good though. To import from anywhere outside the EU you have to pay VAT. 21% this could be on a sliding scale depending on age, I'm not sure. Then you have to pay VRT( vehicle registration tax) when you import from outside the republic. This is what makes Irish bikes, and cars, more expensive then in uk. This is 25%. You get away without paying this if you have owned the vehicle for mor then 6 months before you get here. It's based on the present worth of the bike. you also have to have lived outside the country for 1 year. Unfurtunately, you can't just keep the old reg(uk for example), and not pay VRT, because then you can't insure. It's a bugger.
