OK, I know nothing about this machine except for its name and capacity.

Points for anything about it other than the above, ie: manufacturer, country, date, etc, etc.

We will need a link to a reasonable source.

(Removed comment about possible rotary valve)

I think that's the ugliest looking bike engine I have ever seen.

Ugly, maybe. Easier to clean than a Guzzi - without a doubt. 8-)

I have to. 45BHP* + spada fairing/panniers + 20stone rider = It needs all the help it can get.

If I can lose some weight from dirt removal and make it a bit slipperier, I am happy.

I am not happy most of the time.....

* BHP = best hope of power

Moto-Meteora is the manufacturer. Made in Bologna, Italy. They made bikes from 55-66, tho' I don't know this model name or specific year produced. The company made mostly mopeds and scooters. Some used Morini Franco Motori engines, but I don't know about this one. I think model is Meteora too.

It is 175cc and they made 104 of them.

That's all I've found... bits and pieces from a few sites... may or may not be correct...

I think that is three points, for Manufacturer, country (I guessed Italy myself but could not find a reference) and date.

I had model (Meteora), number made and capacity. Would be good to know what the engine is for sure.

An Ugly

Now I'm really curious. What, specifically, makes it ugly to you? For me, it has a clean-lined crankcase, well proportioned finning and does not have an excessively oversized camchain tunnel. I could live without the heel and toe gear lever and the cambox is a little gawky but otherwise I find it quite distinctive. It makes me think of a (hypothetical) four stroke MZ.

You?

Sorry, been away for the weekend to see the Wales - South Africa game.

Right: It looks ugly because you have a spindly looking 2 stroky barrel, and yes, it looks like an early MZ offering. The clean lines of that are spoiled by the carbuncle of a cam housing growing out of a forest of fins. The finning on the cam housing itself goes in all different directions compared with the rest of the head. I just don't like it.
