Cycleschizo Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Well, the factory engine paint is like that. It looks like a 20 yr old tar roofing job. The rest of the damages were done by dumba**es and the patina was from neglect. There should be I.Q. test given before some people are allowed to own European transportation. Glad to hear your were astute and passed . Thanks for the reply and you're right, most do look like a bad tar job. I've seen several V11 and a few Scuras, owned a LeMans SE but this was unlike the paint on the others. You could see the factory paint underneath. The Joint carrier and rear drive had the proper factory paint and these were left un-buggered. I'd vote for an I.Q. test for every purchaser, I love all 2-wheelers for different reasons and hate to see any ride trashed.
milar Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Just the facts. Sad to say I came across a very neglected S365 in Minnesota. I drove hours to see it after I was told on the phone it was in exceptional condition with no paint or corrosion issues, only had 1 garage tip-over, etc. Winter salt or like damage all over, an amateur repaint on the engine/trans which is all peeling off. Went through a dealer once with no current record of past ownership, current owner mentioned the dealer they got through in Chicago may have acquired it through auction which could indicate salt water storm damage or similar? Almost all fasteners are corroded or rusting, aluminum surfaces oxidizing, paint lifting, rear cowl repainted. Cad-plated surfaces like FI throttle cams starting to corrode, at least 5k miles since last oil change. Evidence on levers (one bent) and pegs of being down at low speed (more than a tip-over) on both sides. Has the clutch rattle but sometimes after engaging it would stop after disengaging, acted oddly, if I had purchased it would have come apart for inspection. Mis-matched tires. Right side Ferracci carbon can had damage, they cut the damage off and re-riveted, forks leaking. Somebody jammed a screwdriver in the upper triple clamp slots, started to bugger, bare pliers used on speedo cable, many other niggling issues. Attention needed everywhere. Those are the things I could see, who knows what lurks beneath the surface? Was there water in the engine/trans/rear and resulting corrosion/pitting on gears, crank, pinion, etc? Looked at it and passed, way too much work to restore for the $5,500 they were asking or anywhere remotely close to that. For me, not knowing the history of how the damage originated was a real deal-killer, regardless of any price. If they gave it to me it would be headed for a frame-off and complete rebuild. What a shame, like spray painting over the Mona Lisa and hanging it outside at the beach. I was so disappointed I didn't even ask about the title, I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised if it had a salvage title. Some excited Squiddy may only see the Ohlins, hear the Ferracci and buy it but not me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm the “excited squidly” who purchased the bike. The above post contains much speculation and innuendo. I feel compelled to set the record straight. Before purchasing I thoroughly checked the bike. Here is what I found- VIN Check: Clean: No evidence of salvage, junked, totaled, flood damage, odometer issues, theft, rebuilt, reconstructed, repaired, fire, hail damage. Mileage: The seller provided the Illinois Odometer Disclosure Statement which confirmed the mileage on 1-4-2007 as 5729. The odometer showed 11,500 when I purchased it. Approximately 6,000 miles in 6 years. Previous Owner: Thru information provided by the seller I was able to contact the dealer in Illinois who sold him the bike. He remembered the bike. This was his statement to me: “it was in mint condition, just a beautiful bike. I would love to have another one myself” Mechanical Condition: I had my buddy, a Guzzi owner, Guzzi mechanic and former Guzzi dealer, check the bike out. He said it was one of the strongest running Guzzi's he has ridden. He changed the fork seals, front tire and reset the TPS. No other work was required. Everything else operated perfectly. The seller provided a receipt for the rebuild of the rear shock. The bike runs superbly and burns no oil. Cycleschizo's complaint about clutch rattle means he knows little about Scura's and their single plate clutch. Cosmetic Condition: Cycleschizo could not get beyond the engine paint, some rusted bolts and assorted cosmetic issues. Statements like: “Almost all fasteners are corroded or rusting,” are pure hyperbole. The bike had been stored in an outbuilding. Some rusty fastners have already been replaced. The others I'll get to over the winter along with the engine paint. Right now I'm having too much fun riding the bike. I'm headed to Arkansas later this month on it for a week long fall color ride. In short, it's a solid, original Scura in need of some TLC. It will be a beauty in the spring and provide many years of enjoyable riding. The Scura is my favorite V11. I'm pleased to own this one.
docc Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Mmmmm - delicious! Fall color ride? Don't stop til you get to the South'n Spine Raid on the TN/NC border!
milar Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Mmmmm - delicious! Fall color ride? Don't stop til you get to the South'n Spine Raid on the TN/NC border! I wish I could be there. I love riding in The Blue Ridge. But I won't be there until later in Sept. Are there enough members in the West to do something similar in Az/Calif? FYI: your beautiful Sport is an inspiration for how the Scura should be. M

mistercristo Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I noticed that the registry was never updated to reflect the fact that my #353 is in Indiana, not Australia.
Scud Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Scura 375 is in Carlsbad, CA, USA as of November 1. It had been in a collection and only had 185 miles on it. That's changing...
