Guest Nogbad Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 So today I got my new registration number and duly called the H-D insurance people on the number given to me by the dealer, expecting to arrange everything ready to pick up my bike on March 1st...... If only life were so simple. I was refused cover because, get this, the bike was race kitted, and I don't own a brick garage. In fact, never mind the garage thing, the bike was offered with a free race kit and free insurance which cancel each other out. So, I ring my current insurer of the V11 who is happy with my security arrangements. They will cover the Buell, but only if I take the race kit off. I then ring a specialist custom bike and kit car insurer, and lo and behold I can get cover for the race kit AND my parking arrangements at a painful but not outrageous premium. (bear in mind my NCD is on the V11 policy and you only get one bite at that particular cherry). So, I am now waiting for the dealer to come back to me. I have proposed they give me a cheque for the cost of the "free" insurance, and I will go with the policy that covers it all as is. I await developments with interest...........
mike wilson Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 I'm not sure thetre is _any_ sensible, one-size-fits-all answer to the insurance problem. But be aware that some companies allow you to transfer some (if not all) of your NCD to another machine. I was dead against it at first but I'm beginning to come around to the idea of "no-fault" insurance included in your excise licence. Just need to work out some method of retribution for plonkers and sociopaths. mike
Guzzirider Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 If HD insurance are refusing to provide cover for any modified motors then they ain't gonna get much business- when was the last time you saw a bog standard Buell or HD without breathing mods? Guy
Guest Nogbad Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 The dealer couldn't have been more helpful. The race kit problem is a misunderstanding, and they will accept a metal motorcycle store as "garaged". It is therefore an ideal moment to persuade the wife to accept a large steel shed behind the house which she has done. Ok the shed is going to cost me a few quid, but I have been needing a good shed for many years. Bike Sheds Hopefully I can get a reduced premium on the V11 at renewal as well. Apart from the cost, the problem is solved. "For all of life's difficult problems there is a simple solution - It's called money"
Frenchbob Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Nogbad, have you tried Carole Nash? They were brilliant with me before I left the UK .
