Bill....you may think and seem liberal by Atlanta standards, but unless you live in Little Five Points I surely doubt it.  Your inability to find humor in MacGuzzis' post shows me you're as uptight as the Muslims who pillage due to the the Mohammed parody comic.  It's good and good for you to joke about the current politics and religious dynasties that plague our societies, otherwise it's just another day at the office.  Come on Bill....I know you've got a Dub'ya joke to tell, share it with us!  Show us that liberal streak! :P

And hey...no hard feeling on this end, after all....it's only a forum.

Actually, I live in Inman Park; L5P is in Inman Park. Come visit; we'll take our Guzzis to the Vortex. :bier:

For the rest of you, wander around these sites ... carefully :D :

Bill...I know the area well having grown up in Brookwood Hills and plying my trade on Moreland Ave. in L5P. Wife worked at Sevananda back when they were on the east side of Moreland. I do appreciate the invitation, tho' only get to Atlanta occasionally for the races at Road Atlanta and do get by the Vortex when time permits. I recall a time when Buckhead wasn't so trendy, Fellinis' pizza was the best, REM was a "local" band, the Varsity was standing room only(for hot dogs?),Hedgens and 688 club were in full swing & Six Flags was a long way out, 'course Douglasville is it's own city now! Atlantas' dynamic growth didn't look to be a good thing and Big Canoe got to be a little too close to "A"-town so I left and haven't been back for quite some time. I would like to know what happened to the old prison off I-20 @ Moreland Ave. Ahhhh memories. Ditto on the invitation....if you feel liberal enough to visit Austin, look me up. Plenty of good ridin' here in the "hill country".

"If you are easily offended, there is a good possibility that you will be offended here. We offer our customers delicious grilled animal products, a great selection of booze, and the option to smoke cigarettes. Consider yourself warned, hippy."

While I appreciate the that they post what to expect, from the tone of the warning I am not sure I feel welcome.

It feels kinda like them saying,

If you are easily offended, there is a good possibility that you will be offended here. Our walls are lined with civil war memorabillia. Consider yourself warned, African-American.

or

If you are easily offended, there is a good possibility that you will be offended here. Every table has a bible. Consider yourself warned, gay.

or

If you are easily offended, there is a good possibility that you will be offended here. We do not serve dead animals, we offer a fine selection of herbal teas, and the option to burn incense. Consider yourself warned, redneck.

They probably meant it in good humor, but it is in typical xenophobic bad taste.

"typical xenophobic bad taste"??!!??!!

Great Scott. After reading that glass-not-only-completely-empty-but-broken post, I am going to go ride the Ballabio home and reflect on how my post got me a "lighten up and get a life." Sweet [deleted name of religious figure sacred to many but certainly not all as the use of said name might offend someone as it would be breaking one of the Ten Suggestions thus it is, as stated above, removed herewith]!

Actually, I was already crabby when I read that as I just got back from the driver's license torture chamber (mine, tho unexpired, had, somehow, cracked in two). Realized after I got there (and actually had the documents I needed; surprise) that I was wearing a pink shirt, probably not what I might have chosen for my 10-year ID pic if I'd been thinking clearly. Ah, but I reveal my insecurities and Freud knows what else. It's ride time. :D

Bill, I don't know what kind of attorney you are, but I salute you, Sir, for representing your clients in a court of law, assuming that's what you do - and if so, for pursuing absolutely, without question, and unashamedly, The Truth - and for knowing how to find it!

Some of the Usual Suspects here evidently seem to think that you haven't become enlightened enough yet by a profession that presumably involves years upon years of close observation of a steady parade of human garbage oozing out of the back of courtrooms onto prison yards - or, alternately, and with increasing frequency it seems, through that revolving door and back out onto the street. <_<

I think what our enlightened posters are trying to say, Bill, in their "open-minded" and "non-judgmental" :not: way, by the tone and the feeling they get from y'er local haunts as linked above, and by what might offend them (civil war memorabilia, the Bible, and eating meat, as actually listed above, for example), is that you evidently aren't quite enough like what they consider to be their kind. Talk about y'er xenophobic bad taste!!! :homer:

Great Guy Above by Whom All Things Are Possible! - don't let 'em make you any more crabby, Bill! Historically, the Phililstines are harmless. They trip on their swords until they eventually fulfill their destiny by separating their heads from their own bodies... We can all take comfort in that! :P

Sit back and watch the fun! Looks to me like The Vortex is a superb observation post from which to do just that! I really liked the following NOTICE in the CHOOSING OUR CUSTOMERS section on the Vortex Web site:

NEWS FLASH TO ALL THE WHINERS:

Listen to yourself. If you're whining, we really don't care what you have to say. Why don't you try expressing yourself like an adult? What are you, five years old? No wonder you can't get a date. Poor little poopie-pants.

This is such a perfect message for the garden-variety Philistines that seem to live just to annoy real people like the bloody Harpies, I wish I'd written it myself! If I weren't on the other side of the country, I'd certainly make it a high-priority point to stop on in to the Vortex on the Guzzi and join up with y'all! :bier:

P.S. How far's The Vortex from The Big Chicken - in Buckhead, if I recall? I might get by there at some point. Got a brother in Decatur.

Some Monday morning politics. North American History - As it really happened . . .

Humans began their existence on the North American continent as members of small

bands of nomadic hunters and gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains

during the summer, then migrated to the coast and lived on fish and lobster in

winter.

The two most important events in all of history were the invention of the wheel and

the invention of beer. It has been assumed that beer was invented before the wheel,

since the wheel was invented to get man to the beer. These two inventions were the

foundation of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for the splitting of

humanity into two distinct subgroups:

Liberals (Socialists) and Conservatives (Capitalists).

Once beer was invented it required grain, and that was the beginning of agriculture.

Neither the glass bottle nor the aluminum can were yet invented, so while our early

human ancestors were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just

stayed close to the brewery. That's how villages were formed.

Real men of genius spent their days tracking and killing animals which they BBQ’d at

night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as "The

Conservative Movement."

Feminine men, who were weaker and less skilled at hunting learned to live off the

conservatives by showing up for the nightly BBQ's and doing the sewing, fetching,

and hair dressing. This was the beginning of “The Liberal Movement.” Some of these

liberal men eventually evolved into women. The rest became known as “girlie men.”

Some noteworthy liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the

invention of group therapy, group hugs, and the invention of “The Democratic Party,”

which originally was formed to decide how to divide the meat and beer that

conservatives provided.

In the early years conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most

powerful animal on earth, the Wooly Mammoth. Later, after the Wooly Mammoth

became extinct due to over hunting by the conservatives, the much more plentiful

elephant became their symbol. Liberals have always been symbolized by the

jackass.

Today’s modern liberal eschews beer and now prefers white wine or imported bottled

water. They eat raw fish but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food

are standard liberal fare.

Another interesting evolutionary side note: Most of the liberal women have higher

testosterone levels than the men. Most social workers, personal injury attorneys,

journalists, dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals. Liberals

invented the designated hitter rule because it wasn't "fair" to make the pitcher also

bat.

Conservatives drink domestic beer. They eat red meat and still provide for their

women. Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumberjacks,

construction workers, firemen, medical doctors, police officers, corporate executives,

athletes, Marines, and generally anyone who works productively. Conservatives who

own companies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living.

Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to "govern" the producers and decide

what to do with the production. Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened

than Americans. That is why most of the liberals remained in Europe when

conservatives were coming to America. They crept in after the Wild West was tame

and created a business of trying to get MORE for nothing. Otherwise known as “lying

sideways in the public trough.”

No Ratchet.

I am mildly offended by the statement targeting hippies.

The examples are just parallels targeting a wide enough spectrum of the population that I figured would help everyone understand that it is mildly offensive.

Apparently not. More evidence of xenophobia.

I am barely bothered by places that serve dogs, and bunnies, but would probably draw the line on seals served in Yuppie bars.

Sex on the tables between consenting adults, no problem. Donkey shows, sorry, I am too PC for that crap.

Cigarettes, don't love them, but I am healthy enough to tolerate them...pity they don't allow cloves, cigars and pipes, they sure smell better....no accounting for taste.

Civil War memorabilia, cool shit, but I do find it hypocritical for people to find swastikas offensive, but can't fathom why a Confederate flag is offensive.

Meat, I don't eat mammals, but for some reason it would be ridiculous for me to be intolerant of meat eaters. Heck, if I had you over for a BBQ, I'd be sure to ask you if your diet required dead cow and I'd wrap my fingers around the ground and mold you a fine burger, but I'd probably ask you to cook it since I was never good at getting to right level of done.

What is the big deal with being less offensive to people who are different than you?

Admit it, most of you are politically correct in some way.

Some don't like be called slanderous names, and we generally abide, especially when they are victims.

There is generally more tolerance of Mc and Wasp jokes than Black and Jew jokes, and I believe it for a good reason.

Some don't like lawyer jokes...but I'll bet Bill does because he is not a victim and he is a good guy with with little guilt.

Some don't like chiropractororory witch doctoring....and DOCC has a good sense of humor about it.

Some have posted jokes about retards, and have apologized, because it was offensive to some.

Was that overly politically correct? Or was it correctly politically correct?

Xenophobia starts from not being able to see why someone other than YOU would be offended.

I have offended people and had the balls to apologize. How about you?

I am probably offending someone right now, but I am not going to apologize, because it is their own smoldering guilt that makes them feel offended, and I am only pointing it out so that they can grow into better people. Actually that is a lie. I am doing it to win an argument, and I have no faith that they will change, because they are stuck in their diseased truth.

I believe, however, that freedom of speech--that right of incalculable value--is best exercised with due regard to time, manner, and place.  For political commentary, this board is, IMO, none for those.
