staedtler Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Just back from a week in San Miguel de Allende Mexico....it was pretty cool! I drove it was a 12 hour drive from here San Antonio TX, to there, door to door...very uneventful drive, good toll roads (bit pricey but worth it) no hassels, good food, cute little town...blah blah blah... here's the thing...all the way there and back i was pondering taking the Guzzi and doing that ride, but you know what? is not the bike for that kind of trip, i let you guys on a little secret...there are no speed limits! really, i was doing an average of 90 to 110mph most of the way, not kidding, and still i was being passed now and then, specially by bmw's or the like...i saw a pack of cruiser bikes Harley like, they were getting shoved to the sides by SUV's and Semi's (pretty bad)...i'll defenitevely would not take anything down there that couldn't outrun it all... anyway, if anythig i have the chance to get a place down there (if everything works out) and if i do, i'll be doing that run on two wheels for sure! now here's what got into my little head: i need a bike that i won't freak if something happened to it, something that can be easily serviced down there, parts everywhere etc, and fast as hell,...well, yes it has to be japanese and, you guess it right... I really don't care how ugly it is... Now, tell me i'm not F@#$ nuts!!

staedtler Posted March 23, 2006 Author Posted March 23, 2006 ... I'm telling'ya, the Kawasaki stylign dept. make Suzukis look like Ducatis! Check the ZX video at Motorcycle USA
TX REDNECK (R.I.P.) Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 ... I'm telling'ya, the Kawasaki stylign dept. make Suzukis look like Ducatis! [ To tell the truth , I think they both look like crap but, I was thinking that if you had the 'busa you would always have to keep moving to the right to keep from getting run over Seroiusly, find and old 80's K bike They can run all day long at high speed & if it gets stolen it's not a big loss
staedtler Posted March 23, 2006 Author Posted March 23, 2006 Seroiusly, find and old 80's K bike 83391[/snapback] TX...I don't know about that Really, I never considered a busa or the like before this trip,...I would never get one of those things to ride in the US, there's just no use for having one of those things here...and yes, they're severely wacked with the ugly stick , but i don't care really...is all about what you can do w/them...heck as soon as arriving to San Miguel i'll cover it with a blanket... so, being fairly close to the border makes it very appealing!... i don't mind droning for a couple of hours on I35 if i get to use it for what is ment for the next 10!! is just like a freaking couple of thousand mile Isle of Man!! IM REALLY GOING CRAZY! i never thought i'll consider getting a busa :!: PS:did I mentioned there's a 120mi stretch just south of Matehuala wich are completely straight! it crosses a drylake bed... takes over an hour to cross it! {better not be sleepy while in it }
badmotogoozer Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Now THAT's the kind of "bus tour" I'd want to do in Mexico! Now you've got me thinking about one of those rockets... Rj
staedtler Posted March 24, 2006 Author Posted March 24, 2006 Here's that stretch of road i was talking about! ...
badmotogoozer Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Can't call you the King anymore... looks like it's Emporer now. Rj
Steve G. Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 My opinion, for what it's worth? Get one. I've ridden a buddies many times, and the machine not just makes 150 mph seem utterly casual, but it feels like your doing 85 mph. Extreme stability is the word. It is quite good in the corners, but because it's longish wheelbase, it steers slower than a V11 as an example, but very much more stable. I'm not the biggest fan of the bodywork, but I can live with it knowing it's a result of the wind tunnel. I say it looks better than the ZX14. Mechanical issues have never been a problem for the 1300 Huyabusa. It is a very overbuilt engine. Kawasaki has always had the most problems with eating cams etc. Avoid the new Kawasaki, mainly because it's a brand new model and will have all the unsorted problems Kawasaki lets joe-public bring to lite. This type of machine is the one glaring hole missing in my garage. One with truly effortless big low end power [i'm sorry but my beloved Moto Guzzi, or anyone elses Moto Guzzi does not know the kind of torque this catagory of bike delivers] and a mid-range and top end rush that literally make you grunt as you breath. While there are now superbikes which are quicker in the 1/4 mile, [GSXR1000] this 1300 would certainly be adequete for me. At the fact that they have been out now for a few years, a good used one can be had. Very few of these bikes are ever sold to 25yr and under squids, but mostly guys like us looking for that light switch of power. An unabused used one could be found without too much problem. And the only thing they have changed all these years is the paint. From the look of the last picture, you've probably done the right thing and picked up one already. Ciao, Steve G.
