wheelsucker Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Is this bike a true ds like the bmw gs? or is it more the the vstrom/tiger?
Murray Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Probally more a V-strom tiger, athough which version are you talking about the 1000 or the 1100ie? There are quiet a few things going for it to make it a true DP bike however as with most the bikes built around the time Guzzi's development buget wouldn't cover a lunch meeting of HD exce's on thier anual handlebar tank colour shuffle hey we got a new model. So the lack of development kinda held it back things like larger aftermarket tanks, bash gaurds, aluminuim panniers simply don't exist for it ethier which doesn't help.
wsholar Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Is this bike a true ds like the bmw gs? or is it more the the vstrom/tiger? 85956 substandard suspension, slow on the road, but better off-road than a V-Strom. I ate up a very capable V-Strom rider off-road, but I could only keep up with him on twisty roads-- on the straights, it's no contest. I've owned Quota and V-Strom. The short answer is that the Quota is very manageable off-road until you get into serious suspension-requisite situations. Gobs of torque, very easy to handle, especially for a 575+ lb. bike. Reminded me of my old Honda XL-250 first time I rode it.

Panniers are plentiful for Q's as well. Mine came from Happy-Trails. The only drawback is the oil pan being where it is, severely limits where you ride in rocky areas. When I rode with the Backroad Touring Kansas folks in March of this year in Eureka Springs, AR there were KLR's, XR's, DR's, KTM's and BMW 650's. I was the biggest bike there with narry a GS in sight! This bike is no Tiger nor V-Strom but more like a KTM 950 without the great suspension! I love my Quota.

Guest Gooz Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I'm thinking of getting Happy trails boxes for my GS. How you like them? Would you recommend their rack system to mount them? Ciao, Steve G. 88584 I bought the rack and the boxes from Happy-Trails in one order, I even had them pre-mount the boxes. Very good folks to work with and the quality of the materials is high. Now the rack serves as a rear crash bar when I run without the boxes. I bought liners for the boxes from this company as strangely Happy-Trails does not offer them. You might even find a box and rack setup for your GS from them as well. http://moto-sportpanniers.com/hard.htm
