world SBK changes: an opening for guzzi ?

Piaggio are going to send Aprilia MotoGP racing with thier new multi. 

 

Piaggio are going to 'give' Guzzi a version of the Aprilia V-twin to develop for a sportsbike, and SBK racing if Ducati are successful in lobbying for the FIM for the 1200cc rule.

 

Aprilia's future streetbikes will be based on the MotoGP motor and the small 450/550 V-twin.

 

Guzzi's future sportsbikes will be based on thier version of the (former) Aprilia V-twin .

 

Sounds crazy, but thats what a little birdie told me...

Rest reassured: no rotax twins on Guzzi. Not in our lifetime.

Sounds so good to ride Zebulon with beautifull weather

Bayliss is the current leader of the WSBK serie on a 999

Ducati is the current leader of the WSBK manufactures tally

LaVilla is the current leader of the BSB serie on a 999

 

Duc is going to have a hard time convincing the japs they

need an advantage to be competetive.

You forgot the V11GT showbike, too...

 

I'm sure all the false starts of the past eight years have had a lot to do with money available and changes of ownership. New owners, Piaggio, appear to have deep pockets.

 

Sending Aprilia racing in MotoGP and Guzzi racing in SBK would be a great way to have both brands competing, but not against each other.

 

Giving Guzzi a new motor is not a new idea. Ducati suggested they would install valvespring versions of their L-twin into sporty Moto Guzzis and revive the 'Bicylindrica' name if they were able to acquire the company...

 

Time will tell, I suppose.

what they actually said was that if 1200cc twin sportbikes are produced and become

the common size for big sport twin they will consider it.

Remember that Superbikes must be based on massproduced bikes.

That's right- its all about keeping Ducati in WSB when they replace the 999 with the new 1200 which is supposed to be unveiled in June.
