Steve G. Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 It was a tough act to follow replacing the 748-916-996, arguably the most beautifull motorcycle ever made. Pierre Terblanche had the near impossible task of designing a bike worthy of replacing the old superbike. As you say, it continues to be a "love it or hate it" visually. But it is a nicer bike to ride, more user friendly, as you sit in it rather than perched atop the 748-916-996. The handling and sure footedness is brilliant, the best handling bike you are likely to own. The occasion I've had to ride one was a great day. As a previous owner of a belt drive Ducati, I strongly urge you to take a course or tutorship at a Ducati shop to learn to work on these machines. They continue to be high maintemance, and shop service work will cost you dear, although they have gotten much better since the first water cooled 4 valve 850-888's. Also, if you are a big man, you will have to go almost fetal to fit on one. Ciao, Steve G.
ferguzzi Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 I know they're uncomfortable, small, expensive, totally impractical... But I still want one. A 998 though, the 999 is just too ugly. Hell, I've already got a relatively practical bike that tours nicely. What's this about a 1200cc 999 replacement though?
Guest bshpilot Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 everyone knows im no fan of fully FAIRED bikes (even my LT is on the repulsive side for me...but how else you gonna make a couch aerodynamic)... i HATE those fugly projector lights on that 999...well beyond a face a mother could love....and that stupid muffer....looks like something MIDAS would have in stock... ok so the swing arm looks nice <clean> but im not even a fan of the "clock" cluster... and for the record i dont like the busa styling either...(more projector beam fugliness)

I can't explain it the ugly duc'ling has grown on me.
DeBenGuzzi Posted April 22, 2006 Author Posted April 22, 2006 one thing. I love the RSV's also and a huge bonus I almost couldn't believe it. 4 year warranty or 50,000km (31 068.6mi) that is unheard of. makes me want it more. rock reliable and a long ass warranty, only problem only two dealers in my area neither close and they might not have'em for long, who knows. Ducati has 3 dealers and 1 is pretty close. test rides, ..... test rides.
Guest Steve_W Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Just to keep you lusting: UK PSA Public awareness and drooling at the same time.
DeBenGuzzi Posted April 25, 2006 Author Posted April 25, 2006 I have a tennative date to test ride a 2002 Daytona with low miles and the duc 999. I almost hope I hate it.
Guest goosesport Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 The local duck dealer gave me a test ride on a 999 last Nov. Very nice but not 3 times nicer than my V11 (aprox value compared). Comfy for a sportbike. Slim between the legs and easy to ride. The looks grow on me. Larry Hampshire
