There's a 1987 Lemans SE for sale in Denver. I was going to go look at it. I think they are pretty rare. I don't know mileage but the guy is asking $3,250.

Does that seem like a good deal? Anything I should know about that model, parts, service.....?

Thanks.

It's complete crap. Overgeared, underpowered, temperamental handlebar switches, ridiculous throttle effort, you name it, it's wrong. Stay away, far away.

OK, seriously: It sounds like a pretty good price, but remember that it's almost 20 years old. What the bike is worth will depend completely on its condition. If it's in decent shape, not great but decent, it's definitely worth $3,250.

Parts, etc.: It's basically a LeMans IV with a cool paint job, blacked-out engine, and a close-ratio gearbox that makes getting away from lights a bit of a chore. It came stock with a 16-inch front wheel, which can be good or bad, depending upon your personal opinion in the stability/maneuverability equation. This one may have been converted to an 18-inch front; Moto Guzzi offered them as retrofits for those who wanted train-like stability.

Let us know what you decide to do.

Thanks for the info, it was very helpful. I emailed the guy and I haven't heard from him yet. I'll give an update after, and if he emails me back and I can go look at it. In his ad he said that Guzzi only made a hundred, is that true?

They were a limited edition, dunno how many were actually made though. The SE box is actually different to the earlier ZD boxes I belive with slightly different ratios and proably like the ZD boxes parts are probably made of unobtainium. Bearing that in mind I would suggest that as a precaution you swap out the 3205NTN9 (?) bearings for 3205 AC3's and I'd also suggest changing the cush drive spring as for some reason Mk IV's seem to be very prone to breaking them up, sometimes with disastrous results.

Mine personal opinion, I don’t like the Le mans IV. I do like the V11 Le Mans of course and the Le Mans II. That was a great bike,

I don’t know, maybe is the seat, or the fairing or the sound or maybe the all combination of this and that.

Well, for that price you can buy a very good one in Europe.
