Guest Nogbad Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 I want to tidy up my peeling alternator cover and refix the "Homing Eagle". I don't want to polish the cover as it's too much trouble and will not sit well with the patinated "ratness" approach to my aging V11. So, anyone know a good spraycan silver grey that will more or less match the rest of the engine?
Ballacraine Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 I would reckon your best bet, if no folk can advise, is to take the cover to a motor factor and get them to match it from swatches. Nige.
v50man Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 Go for a contrasting color. If things don't match "just so" they tend to look like crap.
Guest azccj Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 If it was me I would just take the cover down to the local Autozone or Checker and match it as close to possible. Since the entire cover is going to be painted an exact match isn't so critical or noticable. If you are a stickler for having it the exact same color, take the cover to a auto paint supply store. They have a color matching machine that will match the color perfectly but be warned it aint going to be cheap.
Guest Nogbad Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 Just looking for a greyish silver. This part is usually covered in dirt anyway.
Guest MikeC Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 I painted mine a matte black. The contrast looks great. FYI...didn't need to paint it but wanted it black for the contrast, looks better than stock. I also plan to have the oil sump powder-coated black in the future for the same reason.
