Hello,

Just a couple of questions for you experienced Guzzi riders.

I just picked up a Nero Corsa, this is my first Guzzi and I was wondering about a couple of things.

What type of mpg to expect ? How accurate is the reserve light and how much reserve ?

Not trying to start another oil thread just wondering what weight oil your using ? Owners manual says 5w 40. Just seems a little lite to me :huh2:

thanx and have a great day.

35 to 45 mpg (UK Gallon) that would be 29 - 38 mpg (US Gallon)

There are 1.2 US gallons to the UK gallon.

The reserve light on mine tends to flicker for a while before coming on solid. I've never pushed it but can get 150 miles to a tank quite reliably, 170 riding gently. Bear in mind mine's an early sport with the short frame and external fuel pump and I don't know how the later pump in tank models compare on range.

I use Castrol GTD 10W40 Diesel engine oil in my Guzzi. If you are riding in very hot conditions in summer traffic you probably want a 20W50. If you ride in cold weather, particularly if you do short runs the 5W grade will reduce the load on the starter and should save wear on the engine when it's cold.

I get about 33-35mpg UK

Fuel light comes on 115 - 125 miles

I did once get 150miles I thought the bulb had blown but I must have been fairly economical that day. I think I did get low-mid 40's on monday on a very long run down the slab in torental rain. So it might be more user than machine variance though when I ran with JockGuzzi on Friday (ballbio with Ti's and ecu) I was using 10% more fuel :huh2: over two fills at 80-90miles each time. :huh2:

I'm using Fuch silkolene 15w50 there's such a wide spread of range in the hand book I think you could use used chip oil.

Oh I'm not an experiance Guzzi rider, just a practiced buffon.

Thanx to all who replied,

The Nero is a beautiful bike.

I went to a local bike hangout night last night and got a lot of compliments on the bike, and a couple "Who makes that ?" :huh2:

GSXR's, R-1's, CBR's, Ninja's were everywhere but their was only one Nero Corsa there. Matter of fact I had the only Guzzi there out of 200+ bikes.

Kinda wish there was at least a couple Guzzi's there, just to have someone to talk Guzzi with :helmet:

Thanx again, and ride safe. Bill

My manual calls for 20w50wt oil. I get as high as 47 mpg on the highway at legal speeds. More normal mpg is in the mid to upper 30's, depending on how fast you ride it. If its brand new it will be vibey through the bars for awhile until it gets broken in. Otherwise just enjoy it!

Gosh, A Corsa, nice.

I would have thought that with your home town'n'all, you'd be on an H.D. thingie.

Fuel mileage on these bikes is all over the map [no pun]. Most of it has to do with how many miles the bike has on it. They get alot better mileage when you stsrt racking up over 15,000 miles. My bike now with 34,000kms [22,000 miles] is regularly getting 300kms [200 miles] to a tank, which is kind of working out to 48mpg [imperial gallon, 4.54litres]. I'm not shy about using the throttle.

My idiot light has never worked since new, so my opinion would be to say the reserve fuel light should not be trusted at all!!!

Oil? Why they are saying 5w-40 I can only say it must have something to do about this new kick about fuel economy, and internal engine resistance reduction through thinner oil. A 15w-50 full synthetic will cover you all 4 seasons, as only full synthetic avoids getting thicker in the cold, and thinner in the heat, for safer start-ups. If you are a non-synth guy, no problem, 20w-50 summer, 10w-40 winter.

Ciao, Steve G.

I usually average about 160 miles until the gas light stays on without flickering, and once the gas light stays on the bike will take about 4 gallons when I fill it up. My riding is mostly spirited back road riding, and some in town, but Ive got as high as 45mpg on the highway doing 70ish. I use mobil 1 0w-40 european car formula for my oil and it seams to work very well.

My '04 Nero with nearly 18K miles has been getting right around 40 mpg since new, a little more, a little less depending on the math. I routinely go 200 miles between fill ups, I have pushed it (not literally) to 220 once or twice. It tool like 5.1 or maybe 5.2 to refill. I really top it up too, to the brim. Right now I could have stopped tonight on the way home from work and filled up, this tank has 214 miles on it. As they say YMMV! :P

Hi Steve,

I have an HD "thingie" also.

I see your in BC. I used to live in Seattle and would ride/ferry up to Victoria on occasion. Beautiful country up there.

Thanks for the reply.
