jihem Posted May 28, 2006 Author Posted May 28, 2006 Nice bike Jihem, looks good and goes like a bullet? Dyno's give me a headache, the important thing is" IT GOES LIKE A BULLET". 90536 i want to thank all for the feedback on this. I'm not being anal retentive about the numbers, but before getting my hands dirty and my wallet out, i wanted to know "ze" numbers, and I have been both disapointed and quite amazed at the same time. Disapointed cos the numbers don't quite match what's happening on the road (the bike is much faster than a V11, even if it's 20 kgs lighter, but the RWHP is barely the one found on a stock V11) and amazed cos torque is immense (9 kg) but it's curve is...wild. so, all i know at this point is not much really ...i'm looking at options but it seems like there's already one opening its arms: a stock V11 cam will already be better than the EV cam my STW seems to have...
Paul Minnaert Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 I suppose visiting htm in achen will reveal the real contents of your engine.
DeBenGuzzi Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 I mean really how much info can a dyno give you if youre not fine tuning the mix and pinpointing flat spots, if you just want to know the power that doesn't matter so much to me its more of a seat of the pants I'm getting my dyno'd so the TB's get balanced and the PCIII programmed and I really don't care what power it makes I just don't want it to ping anymore. At this point I just want it to purr to 100,000 with nothing more than a clutch*knock on wood* Looking at others dyno's they seem about as reliable as a fortune teller
Murray Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Probally dreging up a bit of history but NM, I'm looking for engine mods the compression is starting to drop off on the 1100 sport primarly related to there are no real twisties here and I ride with people with other kinds of bikes so the Guzzi ends up working very hard most of the time. With a full termi race system and Klien FCR's my bike (carbed 1100 sport) makes around 73 hp at the rear wheel (about 80 000kms ago dunno what it is now). So 71hp is about right when you do go ahead with the engine work just make sure you go back to the same dyno. Somewhere some once claimed that Guzzi went to the striaght cut gearboxes with no cush drive for a while (early daytona's, 1100 sports) because you had a 3hp gain at the rear wheel I understand that the Ghezzi Brians run the helical cut box. I suggest you don't change it the straight cut one is a bit of a dog. The other thing is that with racing at the higher levels that an extra kilo will take 4hp to push the bike around the track at the same speed. So the easiest and cheapest way to may my bike go faster is if I get some more exercise and give up beer and pizza. Basically 71hp is about right for a rear wheel number for a stock 1100 motor. I'll go back to my searching now.
helicopterjim R.I.P. Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 i know...it's very odd. the numbers are very low, but the bike goes like a bullet... 90362 The numbers are meaningless to compare unless done on the same dyno. The shape of your curves are looking great though. Long flat torque curve and steadily climbing hp curve. I think your bike looks to be well sorted at first glance!
Steve G. Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I've always taken dyno figures with a grain of salt. Riding tours with a good buddy on his 750 MV Brutale with me on my bone stock V11 have given a interesting look at usable torque/hp vs the results of a dyno chart. While his chipped, Pc3'd, Ferracci piped MV offers results on the dyno fully 55% more power than the V11, seat of the pants usability have confirmed that the V11 lags only in a top speed all out drag race across a desolate plateau. Even when swapping bikes for extended periods, we have both discovered the strangely usable urge of a V11, which translates into the V11's ability to catapult out of low, medium, and most highspeed corners, making up on average 15-20 bike lengths on a slower apex corner speed of 45-70 mph. The 1100cc Moto Guzzi engine is an archaic design in todays scheme of things, but it's continued usability in most every application except all out modern bike racing is confirmed in seat of the pants feel. Ciao, Steve G.
jihem Posted June 8, 2006 Author Posted June 8, 2006 ..and what do you guys think about Bruno Scolla's RS cam for V11 ?
helicopterjim R.I.P. Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 ..and what do you guys think about Bruno Scolla's RS cam for V11 ? 91487 If he sends me a set I'll try them out for him. I did not know he has cams available. What information do you have?
Skeeve Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 I think that only holds true if the torque is foot pounds and the HP is HP and not PS nor KW. 90458 Doh! Too right. But the numbers are meaningless if we're not talking HP & ft/lbs (well, at least for comparison), since I have no idea how many Newton/meters/sec = 1 PostScript? (Sorry, but PS isn't a real measurement unit, is it? ) Ride on,
Murray Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Yes it is its German term I think its the equvilent of 0.98 of a hp. All the manufacturers jumped on it as it gave them a bigger number to print in thier sales brouchre. Intested in know more about the cam's as so far have only found mike rich's item's (yes I'm sure the germans make on my german is pretty well non exitant) curious how they would work with a 1134 kit. Is it a full house race cam on thats a bit lumpier for the street? I don't ride my bike in traffic much anymore anyway. Its down around 30PSI compression on each side after 100 000kms so while its not shagged and its not using oil yet it might time to start collecting some bits for around 40-50 000kms time.
dlaing Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 http://www.mgcycle.com/megacycledatasheet.htm They have an odd numbering system. It seems that the order of racy-ness or peaky-ness is something like: 620x? lift Duration Lobe Center INTAKE Open/Close EXHAUST x3 .325 252 108 18/54 54/18 x9 .326 258 107 22/56 56/22 x10 .355 264 105 27/57 27/57 x11 .360 282 36/66 68/34 x8 .372IN .360EX 294IN 285EX 104IN 108.5EX 43/71 71/34 x7 .382 296 108 40/76 76/40 Not sure if it can be compared, but the V11Sport engine has specs of Intake 22BTDC 54ABDC Exhaust 52BTDC 24BTDC Which seems pretty close to the X9, but probably the V11S has less lift
jihem Posted June 9, 2006 Author Posted June 9, 2006 What information do you have? 91501 from the talk he had with the engineer who's working on my bike, the RS cam he has for the 1100 Sport would be ok with some mods. don't shoot the messenger, now....
Paul Minnaert Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 1 hp=1 ps 1 HorsePower= 1 PferdeStarke Only differece is if you have it in din, sae or other notation din = Deutsche Industie Norm sae = Society of Automotive Engineers

I used to have great fun riding with friends on largish two strokes and more highly tuned fours, using a bog-standard 850T. Go into a corner in top or one gear down. They follow, in similar gears because they don't know the road. Slow waaaay down for the bend and then just open up. All the others have to go down another gear (or two) as I watch them getting (much) smaller in the mirrors. It's not what you've got, it's knowing how to use it. m
Admin Jaap Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Sounds good- there may be three of us on very dirty thrashed (trashed?) Guzzis. Not sure of our exact plan yet but we will probably be riding from France en route to Valkenburg on the 14th June. Will give you a shout nearer the time if you want to meet up. Regards Guy 90405 FWIW, Valkenburg is very crowded with tourists, but it has a Guzzi dealer! Spronck Motoren: Wilhelminalaan 31 VALKENBURG
