I have not found any information on AMS oil here- I can't find Redline Heavy shock, and I am about to do my shift spring and change the oil in the tranny. I can get (have bought, actually) some AMSoil Severe Duty but I wondered if anyone had any experience with this in a 6-speed LeMans.

Thanks... please don't kill me- inquiring minds want to know.

EXACLTY what he said, buy 2qts and pujt half of one in the bevel box, save the other half put a full one in the tranny and youre good to go. DONT do NOT cheap out I don't think there is a better oil made for this application and we're talking $15 total I think.

Dudes, it is not a matter of "cheaping out" as the AMS stuff is $11 a quart. I can't find Redline locally, and I have an entire week off next week (between jobs- love it when they say 'we'd rather pay you for your notice and have you leave right away' so I can't steal a client list I won't need anyway) and I want to get this out of the way before she breaks.

I don't want to have to wait a week to get it shipped from Summit or ???

Does anyone in the Portland, Oregon area know of a store that carries it? I'll try Baxter's tomorrow, but I got shot down everywhere I tried today.

summit had it to me in like 3 days, they are quick!! but if you must use the amsoil and still order redline for next time. its pepto bismol, the one that coats. :food:

By the way, I run Bel Ray fluids in the transmission of both my V11 and my Harleys- very happy with there lubricants, so I don't think you could go wrong with either.

I must be lucky to have Summit Racings main warehouse & showroom right near my home. Too bad theres no discount for that  The amount of mechanical stuff they have there is mind boggling

One must keep in mind that the LeMans transmission was designed back when dinosaurs ruled the earth. They probably hadn’t even invented synthetic oil yet… :D

Either way, your bike should be equally happy with your Severe Duty Amsoil or the Redline. Since you've already bought the S. Duty, why not run it and try the Shockproof next time for comparison?

FWIW, many BMW riders like myself also swear by Heavy Shockproof for their beemer trannies. I tried it in my GS but I noticed a feeling of drag when the weather was cool to cold- almost like driving your car with the parking brake on. Never seemed to improve even when the engine warmed up. I’m not loosing it as others have complained of this as well… :huh2: I switched to Lightweight Shockproof in the GS and Viola’ problem solved.

Anyone notice this "drag" feeling in their Guzzi's with the Redline Heavy?

uh you mean other than the already stronger than the rear brake drag the engine has when you let off the gas even with the lightest oil in the engine????? than no I haven't. the idle went down a little and it runs smoother. :huh2:

DONT DO IT! I have to warn you guys that you're making a big, big mistake using these fancy "synthetic oils. Look, let me prove it to you with something I found on the internet:

Found on rec.crafts.metalworking

Subject: Beware synthetic oil

Beware of synthetic oil, it can do terrible things to you and your

beloved motorcycle. It will not only leak out of your engine faster

than you can put it in, but it will also cause your oil filter to

clog and implode, dumping debris and dirt into your lubrication

system. It also will make every part of your bike permanently

slippery because of its linear molecular chain dispersion action.

Then it will leak onto your kickstand causing it to retract

automatically, dropping your bike on the ground! But that's not all...

Synthetic oil will round off your gears and spin your bearings. It

will also splatter onto your seat causing your girlfriend to fall off

in the apex of a turn and she'll never ride with you again. Synthetic

oil coats your sight window and your timing window with a whitish

pro-emulsification additive that is both non-removable and highly

corrosive. Synthetic oil will completely leak onto the ground overnight

and your dog will drink it and die.

Synthetic oil will wear out your tires and make your battery leak. It

will give you the desperate need to urinate after you put your full

leathers on and then jam your zippers shut. It will contaminate your

gasoline causing your bike to stall on railroad tracks and accelerate

uncontrollably near police cars. It will make it rain during rallies

and on weekends. It will lubricate four timing belts causing them to

jump teeth and break your valves to bits. Synthetic oil chemically

weakens desmodromic valves and causes the clearances to change every

six miles. Then it melts the black soles of your riding boots night

before you walk across your new carpeting.

While riding past groups of attractive women it will cause both of

your handlebar grips to slip off at the same time so you smash your

windscreen with the bridge of your nose. It also causes your swingarm

to crack, your studs to break, and your rotors to warp, and then it

voids your warranty by changing your odometer reading to 55,555. It

also dries out your wetclutch and wets your dryclutch. It makes your

clutch slave cylinder seal fail in the heaviest traffic on the hottest

day of the year while putting an angry wasp in your helmet for good

measure.

Synthetic oil hides your 13mm socket and puts superglue on your

earplugs. Synthetic oil will scratch your faceshield and make your

gloves shrink two sizes night before trackday. Synthetic oil stole

your neutral and sold it to the Chinese for $1.25. Synthetic oil

will make you grow a tail. Synthetic oil will write long crazy

e-mails to your Internet friends and then sign your name at the

bottom!

Don't say you weren't warned.
