I'm not the first to think of this but how about this for an Olympic sport:

Aerial combat with contemporary aircraft but with laser guns so that when you get your first hit on your opponent his throttle becomes limited to 75%. next hit 50% and then 25% and then the throttle is cut. This is all done above 10,000 feet altitude and when you are "shot down" and descend below 10,000 your engine will function again.

I believe many of the original Olympic sports were based on warrior skills so why not this one?

It's a good start,Jim but it's not really sport,is it?

Max altitude 500ft.

4x .50 cal brownings with 2000 rounds each or 2x75mm oerlikon cannons with 50 rounds.

Penalty zones within the flight area randomly chosen by the public with radar guided AAA tracking 1 second behind your trajectory, time decreasing by 0.1sec per second for ten seconds. Get weaving, boy!

Max flight time 30 minutes, in the event of no winner, the AAA is activated til one is shot down.

The pilots would of course be fully protected by a top quality crash hat and leather jerkin and breeches.

Got to be better with replica WW1 planes. Slower, easier to watch from the ground and I think cheaper overall. As well as requiring a high level of skill.

Shall we start a pressure group?

How about CAMMADIS "The Campaign for More Mayhem and Death In Sport"

Any takers?

Doesn't allow for deflection. The laser hit is more like missile lock rather than a dog fight.

But much more exciting they're advertising the Red Bull air races on the telly.

Easy enough to have it slaved to a 3 axis gyro to allow for deflection!

The Red Bull air races are amazing!
