Its a toasty 90+ here in N CA(cooling down after 4 days of 100+) - I have been starting my V11 using the 'choke' - or fuel enricher nevertheless ...do these bikes start from 'cold' or, what actually is probably warm - without the choke or is this the standard way to start them?

Your "choke" is nothing but a fast idle. It does nothing to the mixture. The temperature sensors may be adjusting a bit to the ambient temperature.

Thanks for mentioning the temperature there. I'll be riding around there Friday, spending our first night in "Cal" in Yreka.

these things will start in 20 below and 120 above, I can't believe it but I've started it in the dead of winter b4, the "choke" can be done by just holding the throttle a little and is all that is needed. the choke is worthless unless you need to put your helmet on or something while she warms up for you. :helmet:

Thanks,

Ill give it a try without next time -

It has been very muggy here as well as hot - the wind blowing by you does not cool you off at all either - I would keep plenty of water to hand on long rides.

probably depends on your state of tune more than anything. The 1064cc motor is a big ole lump and takes some effort to turn over. My bike won't start on anything less than a big handful of throttle, then if i'm putting my helmet on or anything , it needs the throttle advance lever set on "full" to prevent a stall. Constant blipping is required at intersections once the advance is off and im underway till the bike has had a chance to warm up after say a few minutes.

I only have about 8k on my motor, i bet that theyre all slightly different personality wise

Sounds like you might need a decent tune up a service TPS valve clearances and a new set of plugs often work wonders. might be also worth test the cylinder head temp sensor if they die the ECU uses a default setting which is not always the best.

I agree, my bike has always taken a hit or two from the starter to get going, but once going it never needs any "blips" or WO throttle(via the grip or "choke" lever) to get it running smoothly :huh2:

The only time I had a problem like this, my valves were too tight. But then the problem really only surfaced once fully warmed up, not at idle.
