Hey thanks. So it is energy transfer. No wonder the damn spark is weak.

You may be able to find an old-style auto electrician that can remagnetise the magneto. If they have pole pieces that fit, etc, etc, etc. Rewinding the coils with modern insulation would also be effective, albeit expensive. Sometimes you can get away with re-insulating with penetrating varnish from somewhere like RS. Sometimes.

If you dismantle it, the rotor and stator might need to sit together to keep the magnets up. Magnet technology should have eliminated that requirement by 1960-odd but better to be safe (and magnetised) than sorry.

Are you really going to give that to a 17 year old?

I have my one of these in my mum's garage, hasn't run since I turned 17 nearly 25 years ago. My eldest has just turned 15 and next year could ride it. I have mixed feelings about putting it back on the road for him.

I'm not concerned for his safety but that of my moped which is actually a couple of months older than me :)

Yeah. He's a sensible lad. Anyway, it will have to be kept at my place and he will have to do his CBT and practice in secret as he is banned by his mother from all bikes and bike related activities. I'm planning to get a bike to bike intercom.

That's right, I get the glory of riding through the streets of buckinghamshire on a red... thing. mister nogbad also has a scooter but it's a bit of an assisted bicycle, i can't see too well in your picture but does that one pedal to start too?

Yep, Pedal start.

Quicker 0-15mph than my mates Honda SS50 with pedal assistance of the line :D

Wheels is wheels, and while you're capped down to a limit why not revell in something slightly different. I used to give my mate a hard time that my moped was older than his A65 BSA classic that he was restoring for when he passed his test. He borrowed my RS100 Yamaha do take it on.

Mate, while I can't be sure what it is Martin's moped looks very like the horrid Motobecane one I had as my first legal road-going bike in 1973. Don't knock it, I know how frustrating it can seem but we all had to start somewhere. At least your Dad likes bikes, my old man used to go appoplectic every time he SAW a motorbike, never mind me riding one. I had to store my repulsive old BSA A10 with a Watsonian DA chair on it at a mates place and never told my folks I owned it! I lived in terror of my old man, (Who was a doctor!) seeing me riding it around, or more likely working on it when it broke down at the side of the road, as it did with tedious regularity! while he was out on his 'rounds'(These were the days when doctors still actually made house calls!)

Don't knock the Storny! They are a fun little bike and have a lot more character than the ubiquitous CG 125 Honda that everybody and their dog seems to have learnt to ride on in the UK. I remember Kev saying a while back that the poor old CG has finally been put out to grass. So what do learners in the UK ride nowadays????

I wasn't knocking it I actually thought it was quite interesting, i like the old school stuff like the pedal powered scooters! I've had a ride on my dad's one and it was fun but as cool and fun as it was i'd still rather wait for my guzzi to be ready. When did i knock the storny? It's damn cool I wouldn't want anything else to learn on!

Sorry, misunderstanding. I wasn't suggesting you were knocking it. I just remember when I was your age and I wanted the fastest, leanest and *best* with little or no understanding. Just take it as the ramblings of a sad old fart who used to ride Guzzis when they were thought of as pretty hot sh!t

Good on ya boy, you go for it

Raleigh Runabout? Phillips?

Nobody would be seen dead on anything other than the newest, swoopiest Peugot Streetfighter or some such. In other words, we're in the middle of a scooter boom. Twist and go, you can dive down pedestrian ways to avoid the coppers, given away with cornflakes. Everything a teenager obsessed with fitting in should want. Given the way they're ridden (like pushbikes, you _never_ look when exiting a side road) I'm really suprised the fatality numbers have not shot up. Shows how good modern car brakes are. It's the born-again dads on Honda Blackbirds that seem to end up in pine overcoats.....

Mr Roper was right it is a mighty Motobecane/Mobylette I'm not sure exactly what the correct model designation is. I did get this picture of the Moped Army site. (they called it a SP50R) Mine was first registered October 64.

Shouldn't I get a quiz point or a bodge point or something?:grin:
