Guest SDKFZ111 Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Had a four hour demo ride on the K1200R hadn't ridden more than 5 miles when a brake failure light came on,lever became a bit spongy.Took the bike back to the dealer 10 mins to fix, then back out on the ride. Very powerful machine great exhaust note, induction noise etc. Seating just right for me, liked the white dials very easy to read. Next I rode the ST1200 which at first seemed some what of a cart horse after riding the KR but as they say soon gelled with the bike, remenicent to my old R1150RS but obviously more powerful and lighter. Had to stop to answer my mobile turned of the engine kill switch but left the main ignition switch on for no more than 5 mins. When I came to start the engine the battery was flat. Had to get the BMW recovery service out. Before he turned up I made several attempts at bump starting the bike but due to the high compression of the engine I couldn't even turn the engine over, it just locked the rear wheel. I might well have bought the ST but the seat and riding position were just to uncomfortable.I rode the new R1200s and I found it as dull as dish water. After they had made such an exciting machine as the K1200R I don't know how they managed to make it so bland. It seemed to do nothing till you hit the last 3,000 revs then it got quite a shift on but no intake noise no exhaust noise or nice engine note very bland. So I bought the K1200R with silver frame and engine with dark grey tank. I've always been a twin man myself but the more I ride it the more I love it!
DeBenGuzzi Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 after you had that much fun I'm half suprised you bought one at all, so they have the tranny or rear drive or whatever it was that kept blowing out sorted on this k1200r you picked up? I really like those naked beemer bohemouths, can it do a wheelie? oh wait that was the S, anything prone to blowup on those beasts?
DeBenGuzzi Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 I heard BMW thinks thier k1200r just isn't quite enough. They want to take down boss hoss now
