I'm looking for a lighter summer jacket than my leather.

All the textile jackets seem to either make me look like I'm in a space suit,

a billboard advertizement or look like I'm on an acid trip of color. I'm also velco shy.

Any way, found this Dainese jacket at my local dealer. Seems not garish, the only velcro holds in the armour and is on the collar. The rest is zippers and rubber coated buttons. I'm not to sure about the comfort/armour part. I've seen the areostich gear, it seems popular, but the is nowhere for me to see one in person and it looks velco rich. I don't know why the velco bothers me so much, it's some tactile/noise thing... Anyway, any feedback or suggetions or experience sharing?

Thanks,

I have pretty much the same Dainese jacket and as things would have it, I was riding home through the twisties on Sunday afternoon when a woman in a car, on a cell phone, went well wide into my lane and forced me off the road. Both myself and the goose went our seperate ways at around 35 MPH and I have to say that even though the jacket is pretty torn and messed up, I was very impressed. I have a couple of cracked ribs and a bruised hip but it could have been a lot worse if not for the jacket with the elbow and shoulder pads. I'm very impressed with the jacket and the insurance guy who is comming to look at the bike this morning says they will replace the jacket as part of the coverage.

Having put it to the test, I'd recommend the Dainese.

Cheers

I have one each of a Joe Rocket, Cortech and Moto Guzzi brand Textile jackets. They are all excellent in protecting the rider and when they get covered with bug guts you just throw them in the washer and they come out looking brand new. Of the three I like the Guzzi jacket the best, it was also the most expensive costing almost twice what the others cost.

I have the Vanson textile jacket and pants with mesh inserts. It's very understated and only deco is two reflective Vanson shoulder patches. i wish there was reflect tape on back but I could add it. Very good armour in elbows, shoulders and an easily removable spine pad that i take out for washing machine.

For the first few months, I wasn't sure it was going to be comfortable enough but it mellows with wear and a couple washings. It's not the lightest out there and if you can't take the heat, this one will be too heavy for you. Although I feel the mesh and venting does work well. The jacket is very adjustable with various strap/loop tighteners on arms and side of body. The jacket has a pants mating big zipper in the bottom back although I have not yet used it w the VAnson pants. (I have practised blind zipping while wearing both and found it cumbersome.)

I agree with above comment that jackets are very personal choice. It takes me forever to make a choice. I had Coretec sport textile which was good but did get some rash from a low sider. Both jacket and pants are still usable but I haven't gone back to them. I had read some things about melting plastic mesh and decided I would spring for what I feel is VAnson's more careful design and use of materials to minimize opportunity for that. Bottom line with Vanson is I've been happy with purchase. I live in TX and our heat isn't a problem for me but others won't tolerate it. I recently rode 2,200 miles to Colorado Beemers rally wearing this combo and I stay hydrated using an O'Neil camel back that I pack with ice water and top up with ice as needed. It provides some cooling on the back and keeps me drinking water on 700 + mile days. I held up just fine coming back to TX from CO and our 100 degree days.

Think about new cool tech shirts or the new evaporative vests that you soak in water.

take it from someone in florida... this is the best we've found around here... :sun:http://www.vansonleathers.com/product_pages/jackets/vx3.htm

Thanks for adding the website for Vanson. I checked on found that my jacket is the 'Ventalator' and the pants are listed right below. That's all under the 'TExtile' section.

If I had FL humidity to go with central TX heat, I bet I would go with the shirt as well!
