Guest beemer Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Hi, Any help appreciated here as I've now been off the road for 2 montsh with no speedo. The existing speedo cable on my early 2004 V11 Le Mans has a metal right angle bend as it comes out of the gearbox. Of course the inner has broken at that point! I went back to where I got the bike, new, OnYerBike and ordered a new one, easy eh? It arrived next day, had no right angle bend and was 2 inches too short, part no. 017604900. I then phone around and speak to a guy at 3 Crosss motorcycles (or someone nearby who does Guzzi spares) in Dorset who tell me that he thinks that the part no should be 01760492....but he hasn't got one. I phone back OnYerBike and they say they'll look into it and phone me back........nothing Coupla weeks later, I chase it up, parts guy's left, but someone else will sort it and phone me back....nothing. Another coupla weeks, chase it up again, another new parts person says....Doh! I decide to take a gamble and just order the one that the guy from in Dorset says, they say they'll ring me when it's in. That was 3 weeks ago so I chase it up today with 5 phone calls, still nothing and no-one has ever pohoned me back from OnYerBike. So, enough whingeing, I need to get back on the road before the sun's all gone so I've got 2 big questions, and a little one (question that is!), pleeeeeaaaassseee... 1) Can anyone confirm what the part no. for the speedo cable for a 2004 (I guess it could have been old 2003 stock) V11 Le Man? 2) Can anyone tell me where the best place (preferably in the UK, and preferably by talking to someone who has at least a passing aquaintance with Moto Guzzis), is to get Guzzi spares? 3) Do these speedo cables go a lot, so is it best to buy another spare or 2 while I'm on? Any help appreciated, beemer

Seems these speedo cables are like hen's teath at the moment anyway. I've emailed TLM so fingers crossed. I just wish I knew what the actual part no. is. As yours is an 03' bike, does your speedo cable have a right angled metal bend as it comes out of the gearbox? And if so has it broken yet? Mine's only done 2,500 miles! Cheers, beemer

Cheers, beemer Mine is about 60* off the vertical, no problems with it just about to turn 28K, thats the kiss of death The speedo drive can be problematic there are several threads on it - we worth a search - for the various solutions/repairs/bodges On the Le mans "2002" microfeche pdf the part number appears to be 04 76 83 00 . I think this PDF might have been down loaded from the yahoo moto guzzi group. Does cover the 2002 model - with the balance pipe between the headers, but there have been a few detail changes and model specific changes since. The PDF is 6.9MB I might beable to e mail it or burn it to a CD
todd haven Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 new cable # 01760492. Aailable in US, so it should be readily available in Europe.
Ryland3210 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Hi, Any help appreciated here as I've now been off the road for 2 montsh with no speedo. Any help appreciated, beemer I have been replacing the internal cable with universal types from NAPA for $7, at the suggestion of the local MG dealer, who can't get parts here in the U.S. So far, I have learned that: 1. The original cable came with a brass bushing which had an O.D. within +/- 0.001" of the I.D. of the housing. Unnecessarily tight. This could have caused it to fail after just under 500 miles. 2. The universal cable's crimp on ferrule had to have its largest diameter ground down to under 0.220" to clear the inside of the cable housing. 3. The original washer inside the cable housing should be used to keep it from slipping down. 4. The original internal cable was about 3/8" too long, causing it to jam inside the housing. 5. Liquid graphite lubricant helps. Grease is too viscous and caused too much drag. So far, I have only 100 miles on this, so it's too early to tell if I have fixed the problem. The tight radius bends combined with thin tubing used at both ends still are too tight for my taste, but time will tell. Motomecca Spares seems to know something about the high failure rate of these cables, and thinks MG finally acknowledge the problem and has come out with a better replacement. Below is their link, and my most recent message from them. Good Luck. "I have just heard back from our supplier and he says that the 1 at the end of 01760481 indicates an update from 01760480. So in theory we should get the updated part if we order under that number. Best regards, Kerry" -- Motomecca Spares - UK Moto Guzzi & Brembo Specialist _________________________________________________ Internet: www.motomeccaspares.com
grossohc Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 My speedo cable went at 6000 miles, got a new one delivered from motomecca in a couple of days (sorry dont know the part no.) Gary
Guest beemer Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I've emailed Teo Lamers, and if nothing comes of that I'll try Motomecca. Thanks for all of the part no. info. The TLM website actually shows a specific cable for the 2003 model V11 Le Mans, with a part no. of 017604910000, so I guess that's the updated one maybe? I'll tell you how I get on, it's my first experience of Italian bikes, are they always so frustrating! ;-)) Cheers, beemer
