this is a picture of the bung plug removed from my Stucci crossover. I also notice that the inside of my pipes are quite black... would this be an indication of fuel mixture problems? Or would it be about normal?

Put it back in your bung! Now!! I don't ever want to see it again!! It's not normal!! .... unless it's your exhaust pipe. Then it's not too far from normal. Relax ... then the bung will go in easily .... I hope.

I think your mistaking this thread for the other thread about variously colored rear ends..."Another point of view"

FWIW black is normal and beautiful!

If it was ashy white, or the outside is cherry red when hot, you should worry.

Where you have a mixture of gases containing CO and CO2, the proportion of CO in the mix is temperature dependent. The equilibrium equation is C + CO2 <----> 2CO. As temperature falls, the amount of CO2 relative to CO rises and carbon is precipitated out.

As the exhaust gases hit the cold headers and crossover, they cool, the equlibrium shifts and carbon is precipitated on the cold surfaces.

It's normal. That's what I mean......

See guys, that was just TOO easy. 100% handed to you on a plate :D:D

Glad to hear the bung is normal though... I'll do another check up at 40.

Man, what if my IE is traced? Could ruin my entire "He rides a Guzzi!" image.

Innuendo can sometimes help your riding image.

Just keep the rubber side down!
