Guest drknow Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Ok, it's gotta play against the Buells, but not the XB-RR, and the old BMW R1100s. What do you guys think? I think 90 rear wheel horsepower is feasible and it'll be heavy as the rules allow for 390lbs post race. I would guess that'll be the same for all the other bikes, as the rules don't allow for much beyond motor mods. Stock wheels, forks, tank, etc. I think the bike can be a winner as the class is HP and weight limited. Sure sounds fun. There's a decent purse and Buell and BMW are both offering contingency and supporting dealers to race the series. Come on, MG! dk

Let's see - custom helmet paint job to mimic a beanie ... custom racing leathers to mimic "colors" and Levis - with prodigious ass crack sewn in. Sheesh ... how can you resist? Now the ape hangers are gonna' be a little harder to get past tech.

Now the ape hangers are gonna' be a little harder to get past tech. You have a point. Probably tons of Harley dealers that would throw cash at you to race one as well, sigh. The ringer in the Super Sport Twins class is the Tuono. Fork internals, clip-ons, a belly pan and a Penske shock and a power commander to dial the power down to 118 at the rear wheel. It will win easily if anyone serious campaigns one. The Guzzi would be more fun though.

Guest drknow Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 ^H^H^H^H^H "specifications!" eg: "Whutz moto-st?" There are no pics, as I don't know anyone who's set up a Griso to race yet. However, if you want details on Moto-St, go to their website at www.moto-st.com and also for an overview, type in moto-st in the search portion of the breaking news section at www.roadracingworld.com It certainly could be a nice opportunity for guzzi to market to a new audience and put a different sheen on the brand. dk
Paul Minnaert Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 in the Super Sport Twins , the mgs should ba able to race too. In the low power classes, the one with less weight has the advantage, like the ducati

In the low power classes, the one with less weight has the advantage, like the ducati The MGS isn't approved, as it's not a street legal motorcycle as sold. I agree it wouldn't be easy as the Griso is heavy, but I think it'd be possible to win, with good development.
Tom M Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 I saw a bit of the season finale race at Daytona on Speed TV yesterday. A Suzuki SV1000 won the SST race but an Aprilia won the class for the season as Dr K predicted. It was great seeing all those twins dicing out there. Nothing beats the sound of WFO sport twins to my ear. I would have really loved to see a Guzzi competing. Hopefully someone will enter one next season. Here's the main website with race pics: http://www.moto-st.com/ Here's a link to the 2007 rules and eligible bikes for all three classes: http://www.moto-st.com/Rules/ Some cool bikes including the class champion #6 Aprilia:
Paul Minnaert Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 I see the rules: competition. If you are interested in competing on a model that is not listed, contact Colin Fraser So there is room for more. I see that the autograph sessions are crowded, but not much people on side of the track?
Guest TippyRacer Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I was there for all 3 races, the inaugural race Oct 2006, the season opener this spring, and the season finale last month. Endurance racing twins man what a odd idea that is! But we all had fun there and many stories to tell. Endurance racing doesn't really draw a big crowd but really it didn't seem much worse than the Daytona 200 draws these days. More people than I would have thought honestly. Would be cool to see a Guzzi but really I think the odds of that are about as good as seeing a modern Laverda out there ...
