DeBenGuzzi Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 if you have trouble getting the filter off drop the pan and stick a screw driver rigth through the middle of the damn thing and spin it off with your new filter removal tool Put the new one on pretty tight, you really REALLY don't want that thing backing off(its happened RARE but has happened) I wonder if one of those fancy oil filters that has like a 11/16th nut welded to the top of it would fit inside the manhole? would make changing the filter a freaking snap.
guido Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Crooz, I have read some of your suffering. Just one piece of advice. If the sump baffels you to this extent (no pun intended) then you should consider leaving it well alone. Pop a valium and chill out in the sunshine. Leave the bike to someone with a bit more patience, or, as some would say, "don't fix if it ain't broke." My greatest mistakes have occurred when doing un-required chores, sour, short tempered and out of ale.
Alex-Corsa Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 . White filter with 8 flutes... anybody got any ideas as to it model and make so i can find a wrench next time. I think you have to order a Guzzi Oil filter, wrench tool from http://www.agostiniduilio.com , They have a custom made cheap one for $15 (except from the expencive original Guzzi one) and it fits the filter better thsan the original I suggest you first check out the MPH cycles if they have anything available fo that job. The UFI filter number of the Guzzi oil filteris the 23-287-00 (that's what's the number writing on it), and the part number of the Guzzi part in the catalogue is: 30 15 30 00. http://www.tobycreek.org/oil_filters/ufi.shtml So chill-out there's no big deal about it.
Greg Field Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 The best of the commercial filter/cover tools I've seen is the Stucchi tool, which takes off the cover and removes the filter. It comes with a little "vampire teeth" attachment that gets the filter off every time. We have them in stock at Moto Intl., if you want one. Personally, I don't own the tool because I take the lower sump off everytime, on my own and customer bikes, so that I can get the sludge and mayonaise out of the sump, and so I can safety the filter with an unmentionable little band of stainless steel.
Guzzirider Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Personally, I don't own the tool because I take the lower sump off everytime, on my own and customer bikes, so that I can get the sludge and mayonaise out of the sump I found a big bastard bit of curly swarf in the sump of Helen's bike when I removed the pan for the first time so I reckon its always worth taking an extra 20 minutes to do the job properly. I had to drop the sump on my V11 earlier this year as I accidentally dropped a big piece of kitchen roll in there while the heads were off, it just disappeared into the oil and I could not hook it out so my bike got an earlier than scheduled oil change! Do I win some sort of prize?
