Guzzirider Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 There are plenty of songs written about riding bikes- what is your favourite? I'll start off with one from one of my favourite bands Rancid: MOTORCYCLE RIDE If you wanna make a move then you better come in It's just the ability to reason that wears so thin Living and dying and the stories that are true The secret to a good life is knowing when your through... .. Sara ceased existing right before she died a fifth of bourbon and a motorcycle ride... ...If you wanna make a move then you better come in It's just the ability to reason that wears so thin If you wanna make a move then you better come in It's just the ability to reason that wears so thin .. Sara ceased existing right before she died I bit the bourbon and I'm on her side... If you wanna make a move then you better come in It's just the ability to reason that wears so thin ...before she died I bit the bullet on a motorcycle ride
todd haven Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 1952 VINCENT BLACK LIGHTNING Oh says Red Molly to James "That's a fine motorbike. A girl could feel special on any such like" Says James to Red Molly "My hat's off to you It's a Vincent Black Lightning, 1952. And I've seen you at the corners and cafes it seems Red hair and black leather, my favourite colour scheme" And he pulled her on behind and down to Boxhill they did ride Oh says James to Red Molly "Here's a ring for your right hand But I'll tell you in earnest I'm a dangerous man. For I've fought with the law since I was seventeen, I robbed many a man to get my Vincent machine. Now I'm 21 years, I might make 22 And I don't mind dying, but for the love of you. And if fate should break my stride Then I'll give you my Vincent to ride" "Come down, come down, Red Molly" called Sergeant McRae "For they've taken young James Adie for armed robbery. Shotgun blast hit his chest, left nothing inside. Oh come down, Red Molly to his dying bedside" When she came to the hospital, there wasn't much left He was running out of road, he was running out of breath But he smiled to see her cry He said "I'll give you my Vincent to ride" Says James "In my opinion, there's nothing in this world Beats a 52 Vincent and a red headed girl. Now Nortons and Indians and Greeves won't do, Ah, they don't have a soul like a Vincent 52" Oh he reached for her hand and he slipped her the keys Said "I've got no further use for these. I see angels on Ariels in leather and chrome, Swooping down from heaven to carry me home" And he gave her one last kiss and died And he gave her his Vincent to ride. --Richard Thompson

Greg Field Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Yes, Richard Thompson. Awesome guitar player. Haven't seen him play since the late 1980s, but I bet he's gotten even better with age.
Ouiji Veck Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 "Red hair and black leather...my favorite color scheme" "He gave her one last kiss and died...and he gave her his Guzzi to ride" ~~~sniff~~~ ...Thats the way I do it anyway...
Guest ratchethack Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 There's this haunting, lonely, long-distance travelling tune by Johnny Cash, one o' my favorites, put together with a streaming audio/still shot montage (see link) by Dan Kalal of Wichita, Kansas, a sometime poster to this forum. Dan probably has more long distance USA miles on his Guzzi than just about anybody. Accordin' to Dan, every one of the shots on the link were taken on cross-country trips on his Guzzi, which appears in one o' the shots. If you substitute "ridin'" f'er "walkin'" in the lyrics, it makes it into a motorcycle song. Works just fine f'er me. http://www.dankalal.net/summary/vanishing_roads.wmv The Wanderer (4:44) - Johnny Cash, backup vocals by Bono and U2 I went out walkin' Through streets paved with gold Lifted some stones -- Saw the skin and bones Of a city without a soul I went out walkin' Under an atomic sky Where the ground won't turn And the rain it burns Like the tears when I said, "Goodbye" Yeah I went with nothing -- Nothing but the thought of you I went wandering I went drifting Through the capitals of tin Where men can't walk Or freely talk And sons turn their fathers in I stopped outside a church house Where the citizens like to sit They say they want the Kingdom, But they don't want God in it I went out ridin' Down that old eight lane I passed by a thousand signs Lookin' for my own name I went with nothing, But the thought you'd be there too -- Lookin' for you I went out there In search of experience To taste and to touch And to heal as much As a man can Before he repents I went out searching Looking for one good man A spirit who would not bend or break, Who would sit at his father's right hand I went out walking With a bible and a gun The Word of God lay heavy on my heart I was sure I was the one Now Jesus, don't you wait up Jesus, I'll be home soon Yeah I went out for the papers Told her I'd be back by noon Yeah I left with nothin', But the thought you'd be there too -- Looking for you. Yeah I left with nothin' -- Nothing but the thought of you I went wandering Ooooo Hoooo Oooo Ah Oooo Ooo Hoo
jrt Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 The Wanderer (4:44) - Johnny Cash That is a good song. I have it on my ipod.... There's a (crappy) tune by "cake" that specifically mentions Moto Guzzi- Cake Motorcade of Generosity (1994) Rock'n'Roll Lifestyle Well, your CD collection looks shiny and costly. How much did you pay for your bad Moto Guzzi? And how much did you spend on your black leather jacket? Is it you or your parents in this income tax bracket? Now tickets to concerts and drinking at clubs, Sometimes for music that you haven't even heard of. And how much did you pay for your rock'n'roll t-shirt That proves you were there, That you heard of them first? How do you afford your rock'n'roll lifestyle? How do you afford your rock'n'roll lifestyle? How do you afford your rock'n'roll lifestyle? Ah, tell me. How much did you pay for the chunk of his guitar, The one he ruthlessly smashed at the end of the show? And how much will he pay for a brand new guitar, One which he'll ruthlessly smash at the end of another show? And how long will the workers keep building him new ones? As long as their soda cans are red, white, and blue ones. And how long will the workers keep building him new ones? As long as their soda cans are red, white, and blue ones. Aging black leather and hospital bills, Tattoo removal and dozens of pills. Your liver pays dearly now for youthful magic moments, But rock on completely with some brand new components. How do you afford your rock'n'roll lifestyle? How do you afford your rock'n'roll lifestyle? How do you afford your rock'n'roll lifestyle? Excess ain't rebellion. You're drinking what they're selling. Your self-destruction doesn't hurt them. Your chaos won't convert them. They're so happy to rebuild it. You'll never really kill it. Yeah, excess ain't rebellion. You're drinking what they're selling. Excess ain't rebellion. You're drinking, You're drinking, You're drinking what they're selling.
helicopterjim R.I.P. Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I can not find the lyrics to Bike Blood by the Fabulous Poodles but I did find another old favourite. I remember this song from when I was 5 years old!! Black Denim Trousers The Diamonds Words and Music by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller -as sung on "The Diamonds Collection"-Stardust CD-1010 -charted by The Cheers at # 6 in 1955 He wore black denim trousers and motorcycle boots And a black leather jacket with an eagle on the back He had a hopped-up 'cicle that took off like a gun That fool was the terror of Highway 101 Well, he never washed his face and he never combed his hair He had axle grease imbedded underneath his fingernails On the muscle of his arm was a red tattoo A picture of a heart saying "Mother, I love you" He had a pretty girlfriend by the name of Mary Lou But he treated her just like he treated all the rest And everybody pitied her and everybody knew He loved that doggone motorcycle best He wore black denim trousers and motorcycle boots And a black leather jacket with an eagle on the back He had a hopped-up 'cicle that took off like a gun That fool was the terror of Highway 101 Mary Lou, poor girl, she pleaded and she begged him not to leave She said "I've got a feeling if you ride tonight I'll grieve" But her tears were shed in vain and her every word was lost In the rumble of an engine and the smoke from his exhaust : Then he took off like the Devil and there was fire in his eyes!! He said "I'll go a thousand miles before the sun can rise." But he hit a screamin' diesel that was California-bound" And when they cleared the wreckage, all they found Was his black denim trousers and motorcycle boots And a black leather jacket with an eagle on the back But they couldn't find the 'cicle that took off like a gun And they never found the terror of High way 1 oh 1

jihem Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 there's "Harley Davidson" written by a true genious called Serge Gainsbourg for the once splendid 1960's sex icon Brigitte Bardot (she has turned into a very sour extreme right-winger, and her beauty, both inside and outside, is definitively in the past) Je n'ai besoin de personn' En Harley Davidson Je n'reconnais plus personn En Harley Davidson J'appuie sur le starter, Et voici que je quitte la terre, J'irai p't'être au Paradis, Mais dans un train d'enfer. ( i need no one when riding my HD I recognize no one when riding my HD I push on the starter and i'm off from this earth I might go to heaven, but that'll be at a great pace) Je n'ai besoin de personn' En Harley Davidson Je n'reconnais plus personn' En Harley Davidson Et si je meurs demain C'est que tel était mon destin Je tiens bien moins à la vie Qu'à mon terrible engin. (..and if i die tomorrow that would have been my destiny i care more about my bike than for my life) Je n'ai besoin de personn' En Harley Davidson Je n'reconnais plus personn' En Harley Davidson Quand je sens en chemin Les trépidations de ma machine, Il me monte des désirs Dans le creux de mes reins (...when riding i feel the vibrations of my machine, and desires arise in my back) Je n'ai besoin de personn' En Harley Davidson Je n'reconnais plus personn' En Harley Davidson Je vais à plus de cent, Et je me sens à feu et à sang, Que m'importe de mourir Les cheveux dans le vent ! Que m'importe de mourir Les cheveux dans le vent ! (...I'm going more than 100 and i feel scorched and alive, I don't care about dying if it's with the hair in the wind) translation done in a hurry. I translated Keith Code's Twist Of The Wrist in french, but it's easier to explain an apex than decoding a song and Keith doesn't make rhymes
