I watched the inaugural race of the Moto-ST endurance series on SpeedTV today. I quite enjoyed it so I checked their website to see a little about the bikes racing. You see, I was intrigued that the bikes competing were SV 650's and 1000's, Buells, Ducati Paul Smart 1000's and a 749, Kawasaki EX 650's, an Aprilia Tuono and even a Hyosung!

There were even quite a few recognizable names among the competitors. Stephane Mertens, Geoff May, Mike Ciccoto, Michael Barnes and Frank Trombino to name a few as well as Colin Fraser, Steve MvLaughlin and Don Emde amonst the organisers.

The racing was an 8 hour endurance race that ended in the evening so the bikes needed lighting. The racing was quite exciting. Many bikes within their classes were very similar in performance and their was a lot of drafting on the banking. The race was run on the old layout - not the AMA layout so there was wide open racing!

I read up on some of the rules and was surpised to find the Buell XB-RR is allowed but not the MGS-01. They must have to detune the Buell or else it doesn't make its stated 150 hp (118 hp is the maximum allowed so a stock MGS wouldbe perfect). However the Griso is allowed for the GrandSport class. I wonder if anyone will race one.

Here is a link to their website.

Here are the class breakdowns!

Jim, you could race your Rosson Mandello in the GST

And I could get a Quat-D exhaust and race in the ST competition :rasta:

Not that easy guys... a few of us here in SoCal have been "petitioning" the organizers to allow a V11 Sport/Le Mans in, period. I'm readying my '02 (Cal/Jackal powered; small valve, sport cam, big throttle bodies, ala Dr. John) Le Mans in hopes of competing in the ST class. Moto-ST's focus is on bikes that are currently available for sale.

Jim if you're really serious, they might just allow the MGS-01 in, but count on some seriously stiff competition. I raced against Ciccoto many years ago on a Buell (beat him on many occasions), and he (alongside of Doug Polen) was one of the testers when MGNA was testing/considering racing the MGS in AMA. Both said 'no go' on it. A well-prepped Tuono would be a tough mount to beat.

Trying to be competitive on a Griso in the GST class is a bit assinine. Not that it can't be done, but you'd better be prepared to spend buckets.

Wish me luck... all updates on my progress will be posted on the www.GuzziTech.com webboard.

Yes, thanks. Much better. I see I posted that on the wrong thread and forum, so sorry dudes. Too much egg-nog & Christmas parties.

You know, if it is still for sale in the new year I might just be tempted. I really want to pay attention to the Sport, but the Laverdas don't come up for sale often. My mechanic has a sweet looking green Jota that is his daily rider if you can believe it.

My New Year's Goals are:

1. Dial in the sport's suspension

2. Spend some $$ on the few mods I want to make to the exhaust.

3. As many weekend rides as I can to build rider experience, Guzzi rallies, Track Days, MSF courses.

I've already started by moving into a shared apartment to cut my rent to 1/3 of 2006.

Well, for starters, if you read the rules, it seems you'll be giving away at least 50# and a whole buncha horsepower to the competition. Hard to make that up, even when spending major dollar$.
