Amsterdam- favor to ask

Hey guys,

Davy (our lead tech) will be traveling though Amsterdam on his way to Ukraine(long story)

in a week or so.

 

He is not a big drinker, is happily married, and no longer .

This seems to rule out a lot of things Americans do while in Amsterdam.

 

Any ideas for things to see/do for a day?

He used to race an R90S back in the days,

is very interested in technical/mechanical stuff, motorcycle-related or not,

and is a pretty fair artist as well.

Anything along the lines of the Chicago Museum of Science & Industry?

Is Teo Lamers the kind of place people travel to see? How long a trip?

Any other Guzzi-related things to see in Amsterdam?

Good dealers, etc.

TLM is a great dealer to visit and has a X-mas show on 27 to 30 december. It's about 1 - 1,5 hr drive from Amsterdam. There is a large Guzzi/Ducati dealer in Amsterdam too: Motortoer

 

For cultural stuff ask Antonio, he used to live there.

Long, long time since I been there but the Van Gogh museum was great, if he can get hold of a pushbike it's good fun cos they have their own little roads & junctions, traffic signals & everything ..& the trams...The red light district is interesting (the Neumarket?) to see, but home to some very unsavoury characters too.

i saw a great Frida Kahlo show in Amsterdam a few years ago. It's a great town with a very special 'vibe' to it.

There are milestones museums like Rijkmuseum with the most incredible paintings from the Old Masters like, of course, Rembrandt .

Amsterdam is just nice to walk trough, and look at people. Motortoer is worth a visit, when he asks the owner, Ted about his racebikes, he builds supermono bikes from ground up. Including a special made 6 valve head.

The Rijksmuseum is fantastic

 

and I'm not even a big art aficionado....some of the paintings...you'd swear you're looking at a photograph.

 

Another interesting place is the museum of the Dutch WW II resistance movement.

Poor,poor David. I can think of alot worse places to be than in Amsterdam, & that's any time of the year!

A professor of art & sculpture at Rice University.

I think this explains, in part, why all Davy does must not just function,

but look "right".

It's a difficult thing to quantify, but a wonderful thing to see in practical, daily execution.

 

Far too few people take pride in their work these days.

Be warned. My daughter is currently in Amsterdam and believe me, you don't want to meet her! If you see a skinny, blonde, shrieking Scold accompanied by some poor hen-pecked bloke with a silly hat? That will be them. Run away, Run away!!!!

My wife and I had a great time there in September.

The Rijksmuseum is celebrating the 400th anniversary of Rembrandt's birth and is havinga an awesome show of his works... of course, the Van Gogh museum is about 1/2 km from the Rijksmuseum with wonderful stuff inside it too... there is also Anne Frank's house about 2 km from there.

We had a great time while there -- very good food, not very expensive.

He can also be a complete tourist dork and take a boat ride down the canals.

Tell him to look both ways before he ever steps off a sidewalk -- not for cars (you can see them) -- for BICYCLISTS... the streets are littered with them!
